Some of you may recall the story of Buster, DH's office cat who has been having a problem with his ear. It was bleeding; now it is filled with goop. Our regular vet had cauterized the area to try to stop the bleeding, but thought there may be a mass deep in the ear. He arranged for us to take him to a specialist for possible eardrum removal.
Buster was finally evaluated by the specialist yesterday. He could not see any masses in his ear, but was having a very hard time doing the exam because Buster was upset. The specialist thinks that it is a middle ear infection, which he says cannot be cleared with antibiotics. On Wednesday, he will put Buster under to clean, exam, and x-ray the ear. He will also evaluate the other ear at that time. I do worry about the risks associated with anesthesia, but there really aren't any other options. I really like the specialist, he was so nice, and that makes me feel a little better.
If you could spare some vibes for Buster, we would certainly appreciate it. We are hoping it is only a middle ear infection and that eardrum removal is not necessary.

Buster!

Well I'm sorry it's not better news, but Buster is getting the care he needs, and that is the most important thing. He is a well loved kitty cat.

We took the food Buster likes and he ate quite a bit for us. I think this is the first he has eaten since the surgery, though he does have an IV, so he is getting nourishment. (However, when I was in the hospital they kept me without food for five days, so I know it's not easy living off an IV.) We left a supply of his food there, but if he doesn't eat for them we are going back to feed him again ourselves. Still not sure when he'll get to leave the hospital.
