Anyone have any reviews for the petmate or drinkwell pet fountains?

I have no idea if my cats will like it or be scared of it, but I thought it looked like a great way to get them some extra water if they could be enticed.

They both drink out of the dish, and I clean and change it with fresh water every morning. Kaeli likes to drink my bath as well, I guess she likes human tea (usually I'm in it, before the soap happens).

So do your cats like your pet fountain?

i've used both. i prefer the drinkwell - i have 2 of the platinum models for 5 cats - usually don't have to refill/top off until after a week or more.

Same here - I had both side by side, and my kitties pretty much only drank from the drinkwell, so I retired the Petmate. I like that it holds sooo much more water too!
By the way, it is $19 off on Amazon right now, with free shipping - $51 is a good price... Here is the link...

The only advantage that the petmate has to me, was it was a bit more silent, but if you put the drinkwell on the lowest setting, it is not too noisy... Just a bit of falling water noise. The previous model, the original Drinkwell was very noisy, IMO as the water fell on water - there was no ramp, like on the platinum.
IMO this is an excellent choice!

Carolina you're always full of such good info and links. Thanks!

I appreciate all of the responses, I'm thinking I'll invest in one for my babies very soon. I hope they'll like it!

I just picked one up on Amazon (paid $10 more and got a "starter kit" which included a cleaning kit and filters). Not sure if I really need them or not, but figured what the heck!

I hope my kitty likes this and will start drinking more as a result. I really REALLY want no more repeat bladder stones!

Thanks for the great advice!

You guys are funny! I should open a store, huh?
I do buy all my stuff for my kitties from Amazon, and I know quite well how they work, including price fluctuation, which happens almost daily... So for me it is easy to get the links... Because I do this a lot... Today for example I ordered Bugsy's treats from them - as it is cheaper the store... Most of cat stuff is cheaper than on the stores - WAY cheaper, at Amazon. Not litter, of course, and food... But sometimes I can buy ziwipeak from them cheaper than at my local store! Anyways... bla bla bla!
Which one did you get? Do you have a link? I wan to see it!

Some kitties do take a little longer to go for it, don't get discouraged! Some of them in the other hand, will get drinking from it immediately!

Here's the one I ordered:

Drinkwell Platinum Starter Kit - Amazon

I also ordered our Wellness cans from the Petco on Amazon from the link you gave me last week, with the free shipping.. hehe it'll be here tomorrow
Is totally cheaper than driving 2 hours for kitty food.

I love amazon, I use them all the time for things.. hehe

You know what? I Like the brushes you got better than mine... I got some brush that looks very fancy (sold separately) but they SUCK, particularly the big one... so I just use baby brushes I buy at big lots. The middle sized brush is great though, and so is the small one.

I am glad the food arrangement worked for you!

I know about Amazon, right? After they let all the other vendors in, competition got fierce, and the prices really lowered... We really gained a LOT. Even if you go straight to other places, say entirelypets.com, it is even cheaper to buy thought them at Amazon.
Remember the times when all they sold was books and videos and CDs? wow!

I hope your kitty loves the food AND the fountain!

Is it bad that I was looking at those little brushes thinking of all the -other- things they'd be useful for too?

Our old bottle brush has gone away coz the baby is nearly 3.. haha

I'm surprised that you can still get things cheaper on amazon than down in Dallas locally. I thought it was only us up here in the boonies that had to order in all the time.. hehe

I see that you've already placed an order for the Drinkwell Platinum and I think that's great! I hope your kitties agree!

I have both the Drinkwell Platinum and the Petmate Fresh Flow water fountains. Of the two, I prefer the Drinkwell. I find it to be less noisy and both the cats and the dogs tend to use it more frequently (though the dogs primarily use the Petmate due to its location). Also, I occasionally find that the Petmate overflows and that is something that I've not experienced with the Drinkwell.

Any which way you go, it's always good to use a fountain. It increases water intake and helps the water remain fresh and flowing so that it does not get stagnant. It still requires cleaning on a regular basis (I clean mine very frequently), but it has made my life (and that of my cats) better. And, to me, that's the most important thing.
