Mya - such a long journey!

Hi everyone, I am new to this site so bare with me My cat Mya is VERY pregnant..and the past few months have been very rough for her. Mya escaped outside about a week before christmas of 2009. We couldnt find her, and then after being gone a couple of days she showed back up barely walking. I took her to the vet and the vet said she had a broken pelvis, and some lower back injuries. She was put on antibiotics and a stool softner. The vet said she would have to stay on the stool softner the rest of her life. Well now Mya is pregnant, I took her to the vet last tuesday March 2nd to find out if she would have any problems having her kittens. The vet said we are going to let her go into labor and if she doesnt have the first kitten with in 12 hours I have to take her back to the vets office because she will need to have a c-section (still trying to find the money for that ) The vet says that if the kittens are small she will have no problem having them. The vet also said last tues. that he gives her a week if that and she would have her kittens. It is now officially a week since she was seen. I have not noticed any behavior changes really with her. Other than she stays in my sons room most of the time. She is still eating and drinking, I did notice earlier that she was looking in my closet and my sons closet and behind my sons door. I have a huge box made up for her she got in it but only stayed in it for a few seconds. The vet says I have to catch when her labor starts so that I know when the 12 hours is up incase she has problems and doesnt have a kitten in that 12 hour window. Can anyone please give me some clues or some signs of labor? I understand cats are not all the same and they may act differently..but this is my first litter as well as hers so I am completely lost lol..Please keep Mya in your thoughts and prayers for an easy delivery. We dont have the money to pay for a c-section as we have 4 kids as well and money is tight right now..if u know of an organization that might help with the vet bill (other than carecredit as i have tried them and they denied me) please let me know Thanks so much!!

Today Mya seems more affectionate! She let me hold her and wants me to pet her She has been in my sons room all morning up until a few minutes ago. She just now went and ate a little bit, and she was also cleaning our other female cat which is odd because Mya has not been nice to Lilly (other female cat) so we have been having to seperate them (they got along fine before Mya has gotten so close to having her kittens). Mya also sits in the window alot and for long periods of time...what does this mean? I have also noticed that Mya has been cleaning herself alot! Its not just her genitals and her tummy that she cleans, she cleans all over..is this a sign of anything? She has got to be getting ready to have these babies soon ..she is HUGE I dont have to feel her tummy to see if the kittens are moving, you can just sit there and watch them lol its so amazing!

Hoping and praying for my sweet Mya that she can have her kittens easily with no problems Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as well

My Meeko and Coco did not get along then Meeko went in labor and she demanded Coco be with her and followed us all over.
Coco always liked Meeko.
Meeko did not like her.
It sounds like your cat is very close and could be going in labor.
Some cats become real friendly at that time.

mews2much...I sure hope she is getting ready to go into labor..I have been so worried about her and the safe delivery of her kittens. I am SO stressed out and just want to get this over with! And I cant wait to meet these little bundles of joy

I was also wondering if anyone on here has ever had a cat that had a broken pelvis and then got pregnant? And if anyone has went threw this, how did it go?

The vet said Mya would have to stay on the stool softener the rest of her life..but we had to take her off of it because it was causing very bad diarrhea..she has not had any problems passing stools ..she wasnt having problems passing stools when her pelvis was broke either so not sure why the vet put her on the stool softener to begin with.

Mya is now wanting outside REALLY bad!! She keeps meowing at the front door..and then she runs to my room and sits in the window and then goes back to the front door and stars meowing again. I found her in the top of my closet a few minutes ago she was on the top shelf which is very high! I finally got her down but she was freaking out! I put her in her box that I made for her in my room and shut my closet door. Is she getting ready to go into labor? Her nipples are very swollen! Any advice is very much appreciated!

Thanks!

Can you squeeze them and see if anything comes out?
Do you see the kittens kicking?

Yes the kittens are kicking but Mya wont let me touch her nipples she keeps scratching me and growling every time I try to check them. She is laying by the window now she seems to have calmed down a little bit.

It seems to me that she will give birth shortly. Did you read the stickys on top of the pregnancy and kitten care forum? There are interesting links on how to help you cat while giving birth and how to take care of the kittens. If there is anything wrong, bring her to the vet even if you worry about the money. Maybe your vet himself could let you pay later.
Good luck.

When the kittens are weaned, think about spaying your girl so that it doesn't happen again, okay?!
Also, it's better to be well prepared than sorry. Read as much as you can on the subject and have everything ready and at hand for her delivery. Take every advice seriously for you can never be too prepared for your first delivery. Have your vet's phone and emergency vet phone number at hand.
I really hope everything goes well. I've never seen a broken pelvis in cat, so I don't know how it can affect her. Does she have trouble walking or is she in pain in her everyday life?

no she has no problem walking and has no pain in her everyday life..If u didnt know that she had broke her pelvis before..u would think she looked like a perfectly normal healthy cat The vet put her on the stool softner but we had to take her off of it..the vet said it would help her to not struggle when passing stools..she has never struggled with that even when her pelvis was broke..So im hoping since the vet was wrong about the stools that he will be wrong about her possibly needing a c-section. I have not noticed her nesting..she does stay in my sons room on his bed all the time now though.

My internet was down so I havent been on here in about a week..Mya is doing good she is huge! lol...Today she had some bloody discharge so I called the vet and he said it sounds like early stages of labor and to keep an eye on her..He back right leg has been bothering her since this morning and she has been limping on it a bit..the vet said he thinks its because the kittens are moving down and probably putting some pressure on her pelvis and hips. She has really been snooping around in my daughters room today and looking under the bed..this is something way out of the ordinary for her she never goes into my daughters room (hint: my daughter is 4 and can get a little rough with her so Mya tends to keep her distance from her lol) Tonight Mya has been pretty much just sitting crouched down ...I did see her crouched down (with her legs under her almost like in an attack position) in the living room floor which was strange for her because she has been trying to stay up on things away from our dog. So I have just been watching her and waiting The bloody discharge isnt to much I have been checking her to see how if I can catch how much there actually is before she licks it away..but havent gotten lucky enough with that..I just see the dried blood on her bottom end. So hoping we will have kittens very soon

That's such great news! You may want to keep her in one room for now so that she doesn't end up having them in an odd place, like under your daughters bed That wouldn't be good, because it's hard to check up on the kittens, and if there were any complications, that would complicate it even more. Do you have a nest made for her and the kittens?
Other than that, just try to keep her calm until her babies come!

Any babies yet?

No babies yet Yes I do have a nice big box made up for her Today she was in my daughters closet and she climbed inside one of the dresser drawers that were left open..So she is snooping around Hoping she has these kittens before this weekend incase she has to have the c-section done The emergency vet clinic costs so much I wouldnt be able to afford to take her there..so she has to have them before or after this weekend. I am so happy to say that I finally got all the money for her c-section should she need one (through our vet clinic ) Tonight I have noticed Mya checking my daughters room out again and she also was checking her box out that I made up for her Hoping to see some kittens soon!

Please let me know

Go Mya!

I don't think you can send pictures directly to this website. You have to upload them to something like photobucket, then copy the IMG code and paste it in the message here. I don't know how facebook works. Do the pictures there have an IMG code? Can you transfer them from facebook to another site?
