Just wondering how many members who are living in NY and Pa where they are forecasting this terrible snow storm Prayers for all of you to stay, warm, dry and safe. That is why I love NC. We don't get much of the white stuff where I live.

I'm looking out my window on the 23rd floor, looking east from the west side of midtown Manhattan - snow, snow, snow!!! But it's not sticking on the ground. It's just really pretty as it's falling....huge flakes. They say it's going to get colder later, so I'm assuming we'll have a bunch on the ground.

I love snow.

I live in NJ and we're in for a load of snow thru tomorrow. Could be as much as 16" so far, I hope they are wrong and we get a lot less. I wouldn't mind being in NC right now myself

i'm in southeastern pennsylvania. so far, nothin' doin' here. we had a dusting overnight, now we're just waiting for the rest to begin. i wonder though, how anything can compare to the dumping of snow we had a couple weeks ago. i think anything else will pale in comparison!

Im in Central Pa...Susquehanna Valley literally smack dab next to the river LOL!!! We got about 2-3 inches over night and its still snowing now. Im getting ready to check the weather channel to see what its calling for again but I know since yesterday afternoon we have had a severe weather warning for our area calling for over 8 inches into tomorrow!!!! Let it snow let it snow let it snow!! This means I dont have to drive anywhere and Im completely ok with that!!!!!

So far it's a real dud! It's not laying b/c it's too warm on the ground. I heard the blizzard like conditions will happen at dinner time when the storm wipes around again. The flakes are pretty huge. I hate storms anymore. It's keeping us from going out and doing what needs to be done and people drive like idiots.

Okay, it's sticking now. It's also very wet, so the sidewalks and streets are super slushy. I've been out twice, and I'm glad I have my waterproof galoshes!!!

A snow hurricane is a snow storm with hurricane force winds. Instead of rain, you get snow. However a hurricane is a tropical storm system and the snow storm is not.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Whenever they give a "Winter Weather" prediction for the NYC area, they always say "and there will be more snowfall north and west of the city." We're in that north and west.

The last snow storm we didn't get hit as hard as they were predicting. This time they're saying it'll switch between rain/snow in the coastal areas - but 12 - 18" out this way. At least they reduced it from 24". Problem now is the winds, though they were expecting worse and I guess it may get worse? They're about 20mph now, which isn't so bad - but gusting into the 40mph area. Good night not to be on the roads.

What suprised me was this morning. We were under the impression the snow wasn't really supposed to start until morning, and get worse this afternoon/evening. We went out to run errands this morning, and this is what we were greated with. This was about 8:15am today:

A number of the roads the snow was melting. And on the way home we got lucky and they'd ploughed even most of the local roads getting to ours.
There was only 4-5" on the ground by then.

Oh well - I'm wrong. They changed the warning back to 2 feet.

"SNOW, AT VARYING INTENSITIES, WILL CONTINUE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. THE SNOW WILL FALL AT A RATE OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR AT TIMES. TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 12 TO 24 INCHES ARE EXPECTED, WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS OCCURRING ACROSS NORTHWEST NEW JERSEY AND THE POCONOS.

WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS 20 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS 4O TO 50 MPH WILL OCCUR TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY. THESE STRONG WINDS COUPLED WITH HEAVIER BURSTS OF SNOW WILL PRODUCE VERY LOW VISIBILITIES ALONG WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. THE COMBINATION OF THE GUSTY WINDS AND ACCUMULATING SNOW MAY BRING DOWN SOME TREES AND POWER LINES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED. HEAVY SNOW AND WIND WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE AT TIMES."

I'm actually quite surprised we haven't lost power or the phones yet, though cell coverage has been really off and on. (Knock wood!)

Yeah, I had to go out a third time yesterday - last night. By the time i was walking home (about 10 blocks), at 9:30, the winds had gone up and the temp had gone down. I knew we'd be in for it overnight.

Woke up this morning to snow on my windowsills - on the 23rd floor! And it's still snowing! This is wild! And I have to go to the grocery store - having people over for dinner tomorrow night. Oh, well. Back on with the boots and snow gear!

I do, indeed, keep hearing about the snow building "north and west", Laurie.

Take it easy out there, everyone!

It's nasty out there this morning. I live in central PA, about ten minutes or so from 3CatsN1Dog. And the roads are not good at all. Unfortunately it doesn't matter what the roads are like; we are expected to be at work, so here I am. DH brought me in this morning; he drives a Toyota Tundra which is so much better than my Cruiser.

We really didn't get much yesterday, but it started in again early evening yesterday and it's been snowing fairly steadily since. I still don't think we have that much snow, but that wind is nasty and it keeps the snow swirling around on the roads and streets. The plows can't keep up with it.

Eastern PA, esp to the north, got a ton of snow and they're just digging out from a storm earlier, so they're not in good shape. NY is bad, too. I guess there are power outages there; thank goodness, we didn't have to deal with that.

The good news is that we are to stay above freezing pretty much all of next week, so it shouldn't last too long. It will melt fairly quickly.

Here in western New York State, about 30 miles N of Buffalo, we got about 5 inches yesterday and about 2-3 inches overnight. Closer to the lake (Ontario) they got much more. My kids live closer to the lake and it is very windy, 3 foot drifts in their driveways.

But it is supposed to slow down. In fact it has stopped and the roads are just wet now. Schools are closed all over the area.

But that is the way up here. DH is out now plowing the drive. Real heavy wet snow. I am glad I raked the roof before this storm, I don't think I will have to now.

I am ready for spring. The maple syrup pancake breakfasts are starting. That is always a sign....

How are things going today on your side of the river? So far because of wind we have some spots that are bare grass with barely a dusting of snow on top and then there are other spots where it looks like its over a foot of snow.....ICKY! I havent been out on the roads at all but Im waiting for BFs gram to call us to shovel her out of her house at some point. She doesnt even drive
But hey anything for Gram. 2 furballs are in the bay window looking at all the snow blowing around outside...GiGi was even trying to catch snow flakes. Fatman took the smart route and went under the covers in bed to stay warm. Our trailor isnt really wind proof so the hallway back to the bed room is flipping COLD!!!!!!!!!
Weather channel said last night the snow is supposed to last now into Saturday. Yippee skippee...*Can someone hide that darn groundhog!* Im ready for summer. Id rather smell cow poop than have this snow right now!

I am glad I live where I do. The snow picture makes me freeze. BUT, we were out driving to a nearby town to shop yesterday and guess what. The snow was coming down and looked like a fog there was so much of it. None of it stuck on the ground, but it snowed off and on all day.

When we left for work this morning (around 6:00 or so), the road in front of our house had been plowed....for what it was worth. The wind kept blowing it shut again. Route 15 was pretty much down to one lane, no passing lane on either northbound or southbound. The Bucknell intersection had the flashing yellow lights. It was really foggy, too, which doesn't help.

We live on the hill north of County Line Road. We'll definitely have to clean out the driveway again. It's not that we've had a lot of snow; we haven't. It's the wind howling and blowing the snow everywhere. A GF lives outside of Mifflinburg; they lost power during the night, but it's back now. We didn't lose power, which is unusual for us.

Still snowing here, but not much. Yep, we're to have snow showers now into Saturday morning at least. Not much accumulation, just a general nuisance.

Hide the groundhog? I'm ready to kill the thing!!!
