*sigh* clearly I wasn't meant to have a dog. Well this time I'm just babysitting... but does anybody believe that a cat could know that something is "wrong" with a dog. My cat cello generally "gets along" with dogs. he'll hiss at them at first, but then is fine. He does pet therapy with dogs, we had a dog briefly, and he is fine with my parents dog. However right now I am babysitting my friends doberman, he has "brain issues" though, he isn't quite right, he has a shunt in his brain to drain the fluid and you can just tell he's a bit off, but he is all in all a GREAT dog. And he is a PERFECT gentleman with the cats, but Cello is at the point where he can't even be in the same room as the doberman, he will actually hurl himself screeching and fists a swinging at the doberman's face.... uggh it's awful, and I hate having to keep him locked up. Kismet is weary of this dog as well... she's been hiding, which again, she's never done around another dog. Do you think they can tell?!

Yes, I definitely think they can tell. What does the poor Dobie do when he is attacked? Poor thing.

I do think cats and dogs can tell if something is not quite right. Poor dobie bet he cant wait for his owners to come home.

gah! the dobie is such a good boy, he just kinda ignores him and doesn't even care (thank the lord). I've never seen cello get so puffy and big... and the noises.... my lord. It scares me! The thing is.... Cello has no front claws (not done by me, got him at 7 already declawed
) But atleast he can't hurt the dog...,.

I have cello in the spare room for the rest of the visit (just until tomorrow) I think it'll be better for everyone!

Wasn't Cello the kitty who was pinned down by the Alaskan Malamute awhile back? Or was that another TCS cat?

That was him..... it was a shepherd X

But he has been around many dogs since, and he wasn't even afraid of THAT dog after the attack. Also he has also been very cautious around this dog, even before he was attacked, but this dog never stayed over before.

They can definitely tell when something's not right with another animal. It's the hunting/protective instincts kicking in, IMO.
