Usually 5:30, 6... But longer if needed... I asked how long the procedure itself should take, they said 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on what needs to be done... Then waking up from anesthesia... which she said cats come out really quickly. I guess they do need to monitor him for a bit though - don't know?
It is already 4pm here.... I just hope he goes in today, and all is fine

When Meeko and Sasha had surgery in Jan/Feb 2009 they were not wobbly at all when I got them.
There eyes were dialted though.
My vet likes to use anesthesia that they wake up faster from.
I m guessing Wrnkles will be the same way.
My vet said she was swamped with surgerys today.
I hope Bugsy will be one today.
Will he have to stay overnight if he is doe to late?

Oh my goodness - I am freaking out...
My vet called... Bugsy is fine... BUT - it was not Gingivitis, it was a VERY BAD case of Stomatitis.
Stomatitis is measured on a scale of 1 to 3, and his was 2.8

His mouth is so inflamed that no extractions ca be performed today, as healing will be way to painful for him to bear.
I am shaking... I had no Idea!!!
I can barely move right now...
They said the plan is to do the dental today, treat him for a good 6 months, and only then take him back for the extractions - that is how bad his mouth is
...
Oh my god........ My poor baby..... How can I not have seen this?
He is being worked on, and will be ready to be picked up in about 1/2 hour...
I feel so bad! I didn't see this, neither did his vet... I thought it was just on the outside, and around his gums... I feel like there is a knife being twisted right inside my heart...
My poor baby...

Wait.....I thought you had already told us it was stomatitis? Wasn't that you, talking about Dr Wiggs, and his medicine (or is it a supplement) he has created??

Please, try not to blame yourself for not knowing. Cats are the absolute Masters at hiding pain. You got Bugsy in for the dental as quickly as you could, and now you know what you are dealing with, and will do everything that needs to be done.

You and he will both be glad to get him home tonight, no looking back, and let us know how he's doing, okay?

You didn't see it because cats are great at hiding pain, and they don't easily let us look in their mouths.

Nothing you did, and heaven knows if you had tried to pry his mouth open to look at it, it would have only made him unhappy at you.

Hi Otto, I thought it was Immune Mediated Gingivitis... What he has is actually quite worst - Lymphocytic Plasmacytic Stomatits. It affects his whole mouth and throat...
Not only that, but he also had several root exposures, Resorptive lesions, and Periodontal Disease Stage 4.
He will need multiple dental extractions once his gingival tissues heals.
He was given local shots of an antibiotic (Perimino TAA) and depo-medrol, as well as had a dental cleaning, polishing, and desensitization, as well as Ora5 Chemical periodontal disease treatment. His meds contains antibiotics.

He will need to go back in 30 days, then in 3 months - depending on how he is, plans will be made to extract his teeth.
As far as the anesthesia, he did great, and came right back up when it was over... They didn't give him too much though, as they noticed right away his gums were way too inflamed to deal with surgery.
He is up right now, and there has been no hissing here...
He didn't want to eat wet food - went straight to his dry food... go figure
... Thank goodness his dry food is super soft and it melts away very easily!
I will keep you all posted
- I think this will be interesting, since it is such a new treatment!

Poor Bugsy!
I am glad that you now know what it is and can treat accordingly, and it's such a good sign that he's already interested in food. More
and going out for both of you.

Today was day two and Bugsy is doing much better!
We are having a hard time taking his meds, but I was told he should get used to it with time. For the first two weeks he is on a medication 2x a day, plus pain medication for a few days.
After that he will be on medication once a day for life.
Because I had a lot of trouble giving him the meds in the morning, I called the vet told me to bring him in... They are soooooooo nice in there! I read once about them (from another patient, in another forum) "once you walk through those doors you are family", and that is the truth.
They taught me a technique to give him the meds, or what to mix it with to make it appealing (canned pink Alaskan salmon)...
As I was leaving, he said: Carolina - I don't want you to worry about a thing... You won't spend another dollar here... Anything you need for him, you got it. Monthly meds, all his treatments, boarding, surgery... I can make him feel better - you worry about getting a job and your life, and we take care of Bugsy... we know he is your baby, and we will take care of him for you..................
Now, how NICE is that????

I was looking at his bill, and his treatment alone would be $1030, and my cost will be $400... Because they couldn't do the surgery, they only charged $70 for now. I just couldn't believe it... That was a $630 discount off my bill... I left the rest of the $$$ in there with them as a credit to his account so I don't spend it with other things; this way no matter what it is paid in advance for the whole thing. The meds are $30/month, but they will give me that too
.... I hope we can do the Teeth removal before the 6 months... We will see... For now he has a 1-month appointment, then a 3-month appointment. Depending on how he is then, the surgery for the extraction will be scheduled.
I am just soooo happy that he is on his way to a better life...
I also feel so fortunate that I found such wonderful and caring group of people. Not only these are fantastic doctors, but they really do care more about the animals then the money... I am so lucky...
I can totally say that I have a very deep respect, admiration and gratitude to both my vet and my dentist to the care they have for my babies

I am glad he is better and you have a good vet.
When Ty was pts my vet took $500 off my sisters bill.
She also has given me discounts also.
They even called and asked how Wrinkles is today.
Isnt it nice to have a vet that cares.
I hope all his meds help him.

I guess we are lucky.
Remember when you suggested Azodyl for Coco.
I suggested it to my vet and she said no problem.
You will get used to giving meds everyday.
I have been doing it with Coco.

That is so true... Thanks for reminding me of that... You also give her SubQs; that's got to be so much harder!
I think both of us, Bugsy and I will get used to it.

You will get used to to it.
You can always have the meds compounded.
Are you still getting a kitten?
I give the fluids every other day with a 18 G Needle.
She also must have Baytril,Azodyl in pill form.
She gets Norvasc for high bp every night also.
That I have compounded.
Then she gets a binder that is a powder and she has a inhaler for asthma.
