The boy and I are having a Christmas Dinner Party Saturday night. I want to dress up but I'm having so much trouble finding a dress! Anyone have any ideas where I can look?
I have a little black dress that I love, but it is strapless and Im not a small chested girl so strapless dresses and serving and cooking dinner doesnt seem like a good idea!
I went to one mall this afternoon and Cato's and found NOTHING! Everything was just either too short, strapless, looked to childish, or $100... I did find a few sweater dresses I really liked but I want something dressier. I am looking for something around $30 but I'm flexible. I want something classy but sexy. I would love to find something like this:

or this but with straps

This one but not black and white.
Yet again different color
I do like this one though

I love the vintage style and wish that I could find something like that, but dunno.
Its not like the evening is going to be ruined if I dont find a new dress. I do have a pink cardigan I can wear with my strapless dress but it doesnt look amazing. Dunno
On another note:
I found a bridal gown I LOVE Now where is that ring?!

Those last three are all very simple dresses, have you tried Wal-Mart, JC Penny's or Fashion Bug yet? They have some very nice/sexy/classy dresses. Fashion Bug would be my first choice for a dinner party dress.

Not sure what size you wear or if you have these stores around you, but I would think that Forever 21 would also be a good place for a nice dress.

These are my favorites from looking :3 (I love shopping for new clothes!!
)

A little childish, but I think it would look nice with sheer hose/none.
A cute black one from Walmart
Satin makes anything sexy
A nice Elegant cocktail dress.

I tried penny's tonight but they didnt have anything in my price range. They had a really nice dark purple one that was simple but cute and I was going to try it on but it was $80!! Heck no!

I'm going to go to Ross tomorrow and probably forever 21 on Thursday. Its on the other side of town. Last time I was in there they didnt have a lot that wasnt strapless but that was a few months back! Maybe they have more now!

I'm terrified to order one online! I am a small girl only 5'2" and usually wear small but I have a D cup size... so things tend to fit me oddly... so I must try it on!

How about a nice black skirt and a sparkle top (separate). I've seen several of the sparkle type tops in most major stores.

Ahhh! I almost posted that one too!!
It is very pretty!

But when you said you wanted classy and sexy I assumed you meant you wanted one with a lower neckline.

Edit - Ross is a great idea, do you have any TJ Maxx or AJ Wright near you?

hmm we do have a tj maxx. I may have to go there too!
Doesnt have to be a low neck line! My boobs tend to make most things into a low neckline! LOL! And I am kind of paranoid about low necklines around people that I dont know because of my scar on my chest it makes my cleavage kind of weird. And we have a few of Garys coworkers coming.

I have kind of looks at the tops. It would give me an excuse to wear my awesome pencil skirt, but then I wont be able to eat! LOL! Darn pencil skirt.
I saw 2 very nice red silk shirts at Cato tonight but they just didnt fit that well. I always feel like I dont match when I wear a skirt and shirt for some reason. Dunno why...

What about Kohls? Have one near you?

And you might try some of the second-hand shops. I've seen some great stuff in them before.

Of course, none of those dresses are "my" style!

I don't have any suggestions for where to buy a dress. I just wanted to say that bridal gown is gorgeous. I love gowns with colour and wore one with fuchsia in it on my wedding day (which you can see in my pic.)

LOL @ Mike participating in this thread!
Actually, a man's opinion could be very helpful.

I'm no help at all 'cos I just love to look at dresses, especially online, but I never buy any! Just a weird hobby I have I guess...
Anyway, I second the skirt/sparkley shirt combo if you don't find a dress you like in your price range.
I really like that red one with the black belt. It sounds like you'd want to cover your chest so as not to feel self-conscious.

I dunno its not that I'm really self conscious about it... I just dunno, I didnt really pay that much attention until this afternoon when i tried on a corset and realized its more noticeable since i have gone up another cup size. Guess I just havent thought about it. And I dont mind telling people about my surgery. But its more of a I tend to think of my boobs as a very good asset and dont like them being lopsided! LOL!

so I have definitely decided I need to find a vintage inspired dress. I found some hair tutorials online tonight of pinup hair! So you can imagine how I spent my night!
I plan on doing my hair sort of like this for the party! It took maybe 45 - an hour but 30 of that was sitting in curlers so I can have that time to do my makeup and get dressed! What do you think? This was a rough go so I didnt smooth out the fly aways or really work too hard on it!
Version one: the sides wont be as curly though. I got tired of brushing and wanted to post pictures! Haha!

Version two: (I am wearing this hair clip most likely)

Look okay? Or should I just straighten it and not worry?

Sorry I don't have any suggestions, I normally go to Macy's and buy a dress from there when I need a nice evening dress...If I need something more fun and not as formal I go to forever 21, where you can find awesome stuff. But I just had to say the picture of the first red dress you posted, I totally fell in love with it. It is sooo perfect for this season it looks gorgeous..Is it expensive? I feel like I need to find it and get it now

ETA: I love the hair with the clip!!Very pretty...I love watching online hair tutorials they are so relaxing. I watch Cibu17's on youtube

Ross, TJ Maxx's, Kohls, and Belk are the stores that come to mind. If you have a Belk in your area, they are having great sales right now. Simple, beautiful Calvin Klein dresses last week marked down to $59.00 with an extra percentage off.

Unfortunately its around $160 and it would be shipped from England so its out. But I love it! I have a friend who is a huge vintage fan keeping an eye out for something like it. Shes currently searching for a vintage wedding gown. Thank you I love the hair clip. It is from Forever 21! I think I will try to go there on Thursday! I have a friend that works there than can get me some off!

I am definately going to try ross and tj maxx. I've never really found anything that I like in Belk. Dunno might try though since I will be at the mall anyways!

I agree, I LOVE that dress, but for $160 it should make me breakfast the next morning.
Have you thought about getting a nice skirt/top combo where you can pick and chose and put together your own style? When I lived where there was a Ross's (I'm not that lucky now) I found a tone of pieces I could mix and match at bargin prices. God, I miss that store......

I went to Ross, Dress barn, and Stein Mart tonight. I found one I LOVED at Ross and for $15! It was black but that the bolerro cut like the red one, but then I tried it on... it made me look like I had size like F boobs. It was bad. I'm sure Gary would have loved it on, but would have never let me out or around people! LOL! I did find another just simple halter style that I really liked but it was $30... I dunno I didnt love it that much. And it wasnt Aline like I was wanting. So I am going to the mall, target, and tj maxx tomorrow night and looking there. I did have them hold the dress at ross so I can go back and get it if I decide to. Oh well!!
On another note I did find a really cute sweater dress at Ross that was only $9. I think I am going to go by and get it tomorrow as well.

http://www.modcloth.com/ They have a lot of fun retro-inspired stuff in a range of prices. You wouldn't get anything in time for tomorrow obviously, but it might be a good place for you in the future.
I love the hair clip!
Very fun! I like the curls too.
Sounds like you've got lots of options there for shopping. I'm always stunned at how cheap American prices are!
