Well.........not mouse but MICE!

I found some little mouse poops...

My husband is not freaking out..he seems to think everyone has some mice and its not a big deal.

I don't want them to be killed but is there a humane way to get rid of them?

Apparently Trout is not doing her job

A humane trap. But I'm not sure how "humane" it actually is to take an animal from it's known home where it has a nice warm nest and dumping it somewhere that it might not even know where to hide - but hawks and owls need to eat, too.

Over the river and through the woods...
When we lived in the old farm house I spent that entire winter "rescueing" mice from our indoor cats and releasing them outside....where the barn cats were. Kind of an "out of the frying pan, into the fire" deal. At least the indoor cats just saw a new toy and not dinner! Besides...they don't eat much. Just think, Cinderella lived with them for years. That's it, you can make them all little dresses and shirts and name them all.
(Don't mind me, it's Friday and I'm a little brain dead tonight......)

Just because you saw poop doesn't mean its fresh. Maybe Trout already handled it.

There are humane traps. But if you let it go outside, its just gonna come back in.

If you're going for inhumane, call Orkin.

Not humane, but we always just used sticky traps. That is for the ones that Gus didn't catch. He was a good hunter and actually did eat them after he finished playing with them. We found countless mouse heads as "gifts" outside our bedroom door in the mornings.

Mouse traps..... with peanut butter. Might not be exactly what you're looking for, as it does kill them.... Just stick them where Trout can't accidently get to them.

Look around for the mouseholes tho..... find if there is an opening that they are getting in, so you can stop that prob.

Sorry, I can't help you on ways to catch them without killing them.

and no, its not normal for everyone to have mice. This could develop into a serious issue if not taken care of. ( if indeed you do have mice, and its not just old mouse turds )

Mice in the home are no joke, they can take over in weeks! I have had it happen! They pee and poop any and every where and multiply extremely fast! They chew through plaster, wood, everything but metal only because this destroys their mouths. Their favorite nesting areas are warm, secluded places like your stove/oven, refrigerator, washer dryer....basically places you prefer to keep clean and sanitary.
If there is a mouse he/she is a gutsy one who is testing Trout out. Probably a youngster looking for the better life paying no mind to all those before him who have shared stories of the great Trout that lives in the home which is ohh so tempting but deadly
! Since you have only found some mouse poop, it could easily be one little bugger. They poop like rabbits, leaving a trail like Hansel and Gretel and chances are if you check in places not as obvious, you will definitely find more!
The best way to prevent mouse infestation, or even an occasional stupid mouse, is to seal any possible areas of entrance. Check under sinks around pipes, behind stoves, refrigerators, dishwasher, closets especially in the kitchen, air ducts and vents should have screened grills......
There are humane traps, catch and release, but make sure you seal up any possible entrance because they are creatures of habit and will find their way right back in!

Another thing you should check out are ultrasonic mouse repellers. The sound frequency is high enough that they don't bother cats or dogs, but are abhorrent to rodents. They plug into a regular electric outlet, and let me tell you, they work.

Some while ago, we had a visitation, and the little monsters multiplied and found lots of lovely places to be. And they became quite brazen. They didn't give a hoot whether we saw them. Finally, we found "mouse central". It was behind the fridge, the mess was gross and the cleanup was horrendous. But in our attempt to stamp out the monsters before that point, Rob bought a variety of traps, which we tried in a variety of places where we had seen them, with limited success. Among his treasures, though, was this little gizmo, and once we got the fridge area cleaned up, we plugged the thing in back there. The only mouse we have seen since then was one the girls brought in to torment a couple of months ago. They did so in the basement, and it expired under the table, but it never went upstairs.

I'm a believer.

I don't remember the brand name of the product, but I'm pretty sure Rob got his arsenal at either Home Depot or Canadian Tire, and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Heh, I had half a dozen cats in our house, and still had mice!!! They were coming up in a place that my tomcat could SEE them but not REACH them, lol! And watch those glue traps......longfurred, cat tails+glue traps in the middle of the night= one cat racing around the house being chased by the trap and whacking it on the bedroom door every time she makes a lap, lol!!!

Maia is one of the worst mouse catchers I have ever seen, but she definitely keeps them away because she loves to torture them for days if possible!

Oh, and the jokes about Trout not keeping the mice away - I just remembered. Mice infected with toxoplasma gondii are attracted to cats. That's how it ensures it gets in cats.

I live in an old farm house. What worries me is the fact that mice can chew through electrical lines and cause fires.

Every once in a while, I hear one overhead in the space between the ceiling and upstairs. We use a small have a heart trap with peanut butter or the best thing is wet catfood. Really smelly is the key.

Mice will come right back in if let go within close proximity to the house. So, I get in the truck, drive down to the cemetery, go way in the back and release the mouse among evergreens and fields. I always feel a bit weird but it is very rural.

I do look kind of suspicious....I always wonder what I would say if a cemetery worker caught me! He'd think I was crazy

Nat we have one (or a family) too. It's in the walls between the houses. It(they) come in/out but I never see them inside the house thankfully. We just have cats staring at corners, floors, & ceilings. lol I heard it by my desk last week.

I don't know how affective they are but there are plug ins that let out a sound that scares them off.

Yeah I have never seen a mouse. I think they stay in the walls for the most part. I never see Trout even noticing anything.

Our neighbors cat catches them up the mts but not at home. Since my lovely neighbor grows mounds of weeds for fun, the mice have been living there during the summer. During the cold months they live under my next door neighbors extension and between our walls. I have seen them outside and Molly almost caught one. I would hate for them to touch them. YUCK. Good Luck!
