Currently, all three of my cats eat Wellness Core dry. Two out of the three are overweight, and I'm going to switch all of them over to wet food entirely. I've been seeing that people have been having great weight loss results with wet food diets.

The problem is that the wellness wet food (and the other grain free brands) are pretty expensive. I want to continue to feed a good quality grain free food, but I don't want to spend an additional 60-70 dollars a month to do it if I don't have to.

Are there any good quality grain free wet foods that are in the $1.00 a can (5.5oz) range or below? The 12oz wellness cans are a good deal, but I'm still doubling my food budget.

What about Natural Balance Limited Ingredient? Venison, duck, salmon and chicken and green pea... Tho' I am having problems finding the last two canned versions. I think Petco carries them. They are new.

How big are the cats? I could potentially feed 3 cats on just alittle more than 1 large can (13 oz) a day. And if a bought from petfooddirect with 15% or more it would be pretty inexpensive. I currently buy EVO 95% meat cans from petfooddirect for none raw days--which are rare, except for instances like now when I have pneumonia and no energy to do raw.

Has anyone tried the Authority brand that Petsmart carries? I think its actually a Petsmart "brand" but they don't say that. Anyway, I've been feeding their canned food to my cats and have been pretty happy with it? The ingredients look pretty good to me and my cats tolerate it better than many of the other brands I've tried (i.e. they don't puke it up). Its $.64 for the 6 oz. cans which is a pretty darn good deal when you're feeding as many kittehs as I am.

Authority by Petsmart is a great wet food. I have fed it a lot in my house. It is what I raised Ginger's kittens on.

Sophistacat (sold @ petsmart) is the canned I was feeding before switching over to raw. It has by-products but is grainfree. The best one they have is "elegant entree" which has a dark pink label. Try to get better than this but if you can't its $0.39 for a 5.5 ounce can (at least at the petsmart I go too).

Top 10 ingrediants: poultry by-products, turkey, water suffecient for processing, meat by-products, animal liver, fish, guar gum, flaxseed oil, then all the vitamins/minerals.

Yes, I looked at Authority and bought a few favours to try. I think the ingredients look good. Just my Panther does not like it that much.

Thanks very much for the help! Blake and I will be venturing out tonight to grab a couple of cans for Calvin and Hobbes. I am sure they will be very appreciative as well.

I have been giving my diabetic cat Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys Shredded Fare since she went on a hunger strike against the vet's prescribed canned food about a year ago. I found this FF variety after doing some research regarding store-bought (non-prescription) cat food that would be ok for a diabetic cat. There is a formula, protein/fat/carbs (percentages) which I can't remember right now but this particular FF fell within the guidelines for diabetic needs. It basically has no grains and a reasonable amount of fat. I buy this variety in brick-shaped boxes of (I think) 12 cans/box, and it costs around $11.00 at most supermarkets (Walmart used to sell the Shredded Fare in bricks for less $ but now only sells the Tuscany and Florentine styles in the bricks!). The three shredded flavors are chicken, tuna and turkey (shredded in a brothy sauce). The cans are the tiny ones though, not the full size cans like you get tuna fish in.
By the way if anyone knows of any other store brands that are ok for diabetic cats please respond, thanks!
