Laying here in bed with the lappytop (knowing i should be sleeping...) I just had a kitty brush my foot as it was laying down. I realized, like an epiphany, that I could tell it was Cuddles just by the sensation of my foot. So, to test whether or not I could tell the rest apart, I slid down further and searched with my toes for the other kitties. To my surprise (and chagrin) I find I can tell them apart with my feet, in the dark.

Cuddles has very thick, longish hair that's soft and stands puffs out a bit. He's also rather stocky, with more muscles than the others, but a very nice soft tummy.

Mama kitty -- Loudmouth -- has short hair, very tight to her body. She's still got a bit of belly, but the rest of her is thin and sinewy.

Prissy's fur stands straight out and is very thick. She has a shorter body type than the others, and shorter legs. (she also pressed her chin into my scratching toes, which was a give-away)

Smudge's fur is VEEEERY sleek. He has longish hair, but it is slicked right back to his skin. He's still got the kitten softness to his musculature, but is starting to muscle up a bit now at almost 6 months.

Ginger kitty feels a lot like Loudmouth, but her coat is a little softer. She feels "younger" too, like she's not as stiff and worn down as poor ol' mama kitty.

So, now that I have you all thinking, how many of you can tell your kittehs apart by touch alone? How about sound? Even smell? (I know my brother's cat by smell, because he always smells like pine needles from where he hunts and sleeps, and my mother's cat smells like laundry because it sleeps in the linen closet)

All of mine have different coats, and they're different sizes. I can even tell who jumps up on the bed based on how they land. Smaller cat = less vibrations.

There's no way I'm going to test your feeling them apart by foot with the kittens... All I'll feel is teeth and claws!

All of my cats smell a little different, too, and the kittens stink.
Kittens always smell different than adult cats and I don't think kittens smell very good.

Kipper, Armani, Callie and Missy I can distinguish by touch alone because of the texture of their fur. Mira and the kittens are almost impossible to tell apart because their fur is similiar and they are also about the same size. I can tell Mira and Simon if I pick them up though, because Mira will just hang there lifelessy whereas the kittens squirm, and Simon feels very heavy for his size like he's made of something extremely dense. If just one of the girl kittens is in bed I usually can't tell who it is but I have them both I can tell which is which because Daisy's fur is slightly softer, but it's so close I the comparison.
