Well, we have a new outside cat. Background, we live at the end of a dirt road in the boonies. MIL (who lives up the road) has a barn and used to have livestock, hence the barn cats. The livestock has been sold but the barn cats are still here. We've gotten a lot of them spayed/neutered but people keep dumping more on us.

Last night we were greeted with a very demanding "meow" and a BEAUTIFUL tabby walked right up to us and starting rubbing on us looking for food. Now, this is NOT one of the barn cats, and he seems to be only 8-9 months old. His tail is GORGEOUS!! I swear, when he holds it upright it is as big around as my husband's forearm. A beautiful tabby (as yes, he is an intact male). I know he's not a barn cat because not only could I pick him up, but I could turn him over and rub his belly while he just purred his little head off.

He wants in the house SO bad. We're going to put signs w/ pics down at the neighborhood store to see if he got out from a house around here, but I think he was probably just dumped. Why do people do that? If they want to, can't they include $20 to help for the feeding costs? I can't just let these guys starve. I spend more money on food for animals than I do on our food. He is such a sweetie though....

I get cats dumped on me too. Lynx point siamese who was a polydactil was the last one...but he went to a new home yesterday
I do wish that if someone dumps a cat they would include some money.

Yeah I used to get that a lot in GA, everyone around us knew we had a cat and how much I love animals (especially cats) so we've been given a TON of cats/dogs (and had a ton left in our yard) by people. Some people just suck =0(

My in-laws live next to a small trailer park outside of town. It attracts some questionable types - some occupants had police out there several times. I witnessed a couple pretty crazy fights..
Anyways, these irresponsible people would often leave their cats and sometimes their dogs. I've had to take care of a lot of cats from that.

I don't know why people do their to their pets. If they can't care for them, why do they get them in the first place?

Update...he is not a "he", he is a "she". The "intactness" I saw the other day was acutally hair matted around burrs stuck to her butt that we did cut out. Other than that she is perfectly cared for, no other mats that we could find (and she is VERY fluffy) even her tail has no burrs or clumps like the typical barn/outdoor cat. Eyes are completely clear, no signs of URI. No fleas or ticks. She gets along fine with out other cats and even started rubbing up against the dogs.

Haha...I know whats going to happen because it's already happening. She got in with the dogs last night, and went straight to the food dish, then the litter box, then the couch where she curled up and went to sleep. I put her out last night with the other 2 barn cats that think this is their home but when I woke up in the middle of the night jonesing for more turkey, she saw me through the window and started crying her head off to be let in. So, idiot that I am let her in. Right now, she's going outside during the day when we aren't here, but she comes in in the evening. Lord help me but my cat count may be up to 13 if we can't find her owner. Good thing is all but 4 of the cats like being outside during the day (until we start getting snow) so that will save on kitty litter, and I would feed them if they were outside or inside cats.

Think I could apply for a grant as a no-kill shelter?

LOL, I wouldn't blame you for trying; you practically are a shelter already. Thirteen cats! wow... I thought I was crowded when I had three in the apartment.
