My husband's uncle died a little over two months ago, and his son's indoor-only cat, Ben, accidentally escaped during the wake on September 15. S. did everything possible to find him, but no luck.

I woke up to the wailing of a banshee this morning - I'm hearing-impaired, so you can imagine how loud it was - and rushed out in my nightgown, because I thought a fox had Miezi cornered. She was cornered all right - by a big black cat. When I got a good look at him, I realized it was Ben, or a cat that had exactly the same weird facial markings (concentric black and white circles around his nose). I called him, and he came right to me.

S. lives on the other side of town. Ben might have been in our neighborhood for a while, but I doubt it, because he would have tangled with another cat or Miezi before now - she's always out and about, and constantly getting into scraps with other cats. Did fate lead him to our door? He's lost weight, but doesn't look bad for a cat that was missing for two months. S. couldn't believe it when I called and said I had Ben here, and cried when he came to pick him up.

This has made my day!

Nope, and he's "met" me a total of 3 or 4 times in the eight years S. has had him, so it's a small miracle that he came to me when I called him and let me pick him up and carry him in the house.

I wonder where he was for two months?

What a heart warming story Tricia.

I wonder if you will ever really know how Ben found you.

I called him right away, and he was over in ten minutes. I've never seen him so happy - he hugged him and cried.

Some angel led him to you. I'm glad he is home and safe now.

WOW! What are the chances, indeed! That would put a big silly grin on my face for a week! Glad Ben seems to be in decent condition, too.

So, it was him for sure? No shadow of doubt?
I checked his tattoo against the shelter list of missing cats to be absolutely sure - there's no doubt it's Ben. He somehow made it from the southeast corner of town to the northwest, and crossed the river (there are two bridges, but one has been closed for the past six months). S. took him to the vet today, and he's fine.

He was very emotional, because he got Ben right after his wife ran off with her boss, and not long after his younger brother committed suicide. Ben has been his best friend and companion - he even added a small conservatory to his house for the cat.
