ouchie! Foxtail

Poor Bear, our border collie cross. While out on a walk this morning he got something up his nose. He kept sneezing and sneezing, so hard that he almost fall over. after two bouts of this we ran him to the vets. The poor guy had a foxtail in his nostril. The vet says the chances of him sneezing it out was slim. I'm so glad we got him to the vets quickly. I've had a foxtail in my socks on occasion they hurt. I can't imagine how much that hurt up his nose. Poor baby.

Foxtail is one of several plants that has a bearded head with sharp seed awns. Most common in most of western Canada is Hordeum jubatum aka foxtail barley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hordeum_jubatum
This plant is also sold commercially as Squirreltail Decorative Grass.....rather silly to grow in one's garden such a pest.

It's the seed of certain species of grasses like wild barley and can cause quite a bit of damage.

Glad your puppy got that thing out of his nose, poor baby.
