I remember in a psychology course, they talked about endearing interactions, such as baby talk and calling by different names. I musty admit that I call my cats (audio, olive) audioso and olivette. What can I say, I love my cats.

It means green in Japanese. Our kitty has enormous green peepers -so viola Midori.

The green melon Midori liquor which is from Japan is very sweet. I've never had a midori colada before but have had other green cocktails made from it. In Japan everything sweet comes in melon flavor greeness... bread, candy, soda, liquor... You name it.

I'm lukewarm on melon flavored stuff. I prefer the other Japanese greenness which is matcha or green tea flavored things.

Snuffles was the name my 7yr old stepson chose for her, I like to call her Snuffy or Snuffalufagus or just "kitten", even though she's over a year now, she's still my kitten
I have kitten fever so bad right now too, can't actively go get one, but if one just showed up, mammaw would want to keep it and it wouldn't be my fault then...

Sassy more often then not gets called fuzzy butt because the fur on his hind-legs curls.

Linus, is Linney, or more often hey Brat...

Pixie of course gets Pixie Stick and The Pixelator( if you got to know her you would understand, a path of destruction often follows in her wake)

I also have a tendency to call Linus and Pixie the kids when I am referring to them together as in when I say to Sassy....
"Go find the kids they are being to quiet"
And that is what he does tracks them down and when he finds them meows to let me know.

Our's nicknames are pretty basic.
Sassie is usually Sass, Sassers, or I will call her the Sass-Attack. The only thing we can't call her is Sassafrass. Someone started calling her that name - while they were picking on Sassie - now whenever she hears it, she starts hissing and gets into her 'Sass-Attack' mood.
Teddie is normally either Tedd or the Teddie-Bear.

Haha cute post!
Chloe has often been called Chloe Monster, Sticks (her paws are so tiny it looks like she is walking on sticks) or Baby Giiiiiiirl (usually when she is whiny and we pick her up to give her attention).
Kinko is Kinko Biloba (my husband started saying that out of the blue), Ski Pants (because of his fuzzy rear) or Little Boy (usually what I say when I want him to come sit next to me).
The two new kittens just got their names but have gotten called a few of the "General" nicknames:
Whiny Butt - when a cat can't stop mewing for whatever reason.
Squirmy Doodle - when a cat won't stay in your arms, or on a rare occasion moves to much when cutting nails.
Laaaaaaaazy Baaaaaaaaby - when a cat has slept for hours and hours on end.
Fuzzy Bear - that's how I think Maine Coons look, like little fuzzy bears.

Flower is "pretty girl"

Figaro is "kitten" because he is the youngest and still looks very much like a kitten

Belle is "cry baby" to my parents because EVERY night she walks up and down the hall meowing, but I call her baby kitty because even though she is 3 she is just a tiny cat

Tiger Lilly is "stumpy" it is not a very nice nickname, but when she was a kitten she had a very long tail and she got part of it got caught on something (still to this day don't know what) and she had to have about 6 inches amputated. I know its not very nice but sadly that is the name she responds to when she is called

My friend's cat had his tail run over by a car and the same thing happened (being amputated)! It's cute though and at least she doesn't seem to mind.

She does not mind at all. They didn't take her entire tail just about half of it, but it was REALLY long so not it looks about normal for a kitty her size. Hated that my parents called her stumpy, but now she thinks that is her name
We had not had her very long when it happened so she never got a chance to learn her real name! It just sounds so mean!

This is bad, but I use the same nicknames for both cats. I'm sure it confuses them.

Mr. Boo Boo, and Mr. Cat.

And then Mr. Maddox and Mr. Matty.

Ohmigosh, I love this topic! In my forty-something years, I've had a lot of cats to name and to nickname! We had a pair of cats that my sister and I called Boy-Kitty and Girl-Kitty. Boy Kitty became Bukata (BOO'-kata) and a zillion other versions of that and then later he inexplicably became Skipper...but the names get funnier with later cats. Jesse....Jezebel-Emmanuel......Duffy (formally Sargent John Scott MacDuff)...became Duffelbag and then just Bag (awful!! but funny!) or Bagel-duff; my last cat prior to my new kitten was Greta and became Gretina...then Gretuna..then just Tuna and Toonces, also Gretty-baby. I've only had Gigi for four days............God only knows what name-torture awaits, haha!!!!

LOL!!!!! I just remembered that those were a couple more nicknames for my Duffy cat that I had when I was a teenager!!! We too called him Butzie and Butz and Butzie-Wutzie!!!! WOW!! Had I not read your post, I'm not sure I would have ever remembered that!! He was a quite stunning looking brown tabby and white semi longhair shelter kitty.

Ginger is also know as zabu, short for zabumafu, not a clue why I call her this! I also call her puppy cat because she follows me around and greets me at the door when I come home.

ETA: Now that I think about it, I really only call her by her actual name when she has gotten into some sort of trouble. Some others are smooshey butt, fluff face, pooper dooper, Seriously, I need to get out more!

My theory is that the number of nicknames an animal has is directly proportional to how much you love it!
