Monday, my stepdad went in for kidney stone removal.
Monday night he was very sick and my mother took him back to the hospital.
By Tuesday he had declined, went into septic shock.
Wednesday they diagnosed him with bacterial Septicemia.
They are pumping him full of antibiotics, painkillers and fever reducers, he's had no improvement.
When he isn't sleeping, he's groggy, has no appetite and either has a fever, or chills.

He is not that old (66) and my mother relies heavily on him as she's much older and in very poor health herself and faces the possibility of assisted living without him.
I'm worried, my mother is worried, she's a retired nurse, so the doctors can't simply paint a good picture for her.

He could use some serious vibes and prayers, as could my mother.

The nurse my mother spoke to said that sometimes this sits dormant and stress such as the surgery he had Monday can activate.
It could have come from the cut he had on his toe, or any number of other things, there is simply no telling.

The prognosis for Speticemia is basically neutral.

My dad had that and they weren't sure what caused it. He was in intensive care for a bit. I hope your stepdad recovers.

Sending mega vibes..the one time I dealt with this, it was incredibly fast to develop (from closing to when we got to the recovery room was all the time it took for the patient to show signs)...so glad your mom got him right back to the hospital.

The antibiotics are finally working and he's improving.
However, he was just diagnosed with prostate cancer

The good news is that it is early stage and very slow to progress and very, very treatable.

So now we just need to get the infection gone so the cancer can start being treated.
TCS magic does work, thank you all.

I hope he continues to improve.
I'm sorry about the prostate cancer, and hope it was diagnosed with plenty of time for him to make a full recovery
