Hi,

I have two male kittens (Siamese, turning 5 months old in a couple of days) that I am currently feeding a homemade diet (beef, with pumpkin) as suggested by their vet. The vet however didn't say how much I should feed them (as much as they eat isn't really helpful).

Anyway, I was feeding them about 4 tablespoons in the morning and 4 at night of the wet food, plus sum dry food (1/4 cup each) in the middle of the day as a snack. While this was fine, about a week ago the two of them started acting like they are ALWAYS hungry which led me to believe I need to up their food intake.

I looked everywhere on the forum, and the thread I found said that they can eat between 4-6 ounces of food every day. I weighed what I am feeding them today, and they are eating 6 ounces TWICE a day, which is almost double what is mentioned on the forums (not counting the dry food).

Am I feeding them too much?
Do I need to let them eat as much as they want till they hit 6 months?
Should I change their schedule (they get two wet meals 10 hours apart, and a snack in the middle)

Thanks.

I have had kittens and orphaned kittens that I bottle fed. That is my only experience. What I got from my vet (mind you his opinion only) is that they go through "growth spurts" and will eat more at that time.

The vet was also of the opinion to feed kittens as much as they need to be satisfied. Many "all life stage" commercial cat foods list as a guideline the quanity double that of an adult cat to feed.

I fed mine a certain amount and if they were still hungry I give them a small amount more until they were satisfied. They need protein and fat to grow. One kitten may eat more or less than another. Try incteasing the amount and see how they do.
