Hi there Ben from Western Australia, sorry no photos due to a recent hard drive death but I have two cats 1 a tortoiseshell tabbie called Tiger (around 6yrs) and a lilac point burmese called Cooper (18 months)

As a point of difference here in Australia feral cats are a serious ecological problem and all cat owners need to be responsible if we are going to be able to keep cats without major restrictions. seeing a section of a forum dedicated to strays and ferals seems very strange, Here ferals are shot or poisoned

To a large extent, the point of most feral/stray programs here in the U.S. is to neuter them and thus let the population slowly diminish naturally. Most people don't realize how hard cats are on the native wildlife, especially birds and small mammals.

Hi Ben and welcome to TCS!

I'm a kiwi, and know what you mean about the ecological damage done by feral cats, dogs, and other introduced species. It's an uncomfortable topic to talk about, but I agree that the population of ferals needs to be reduced. My concern is obviously that culling needs to be done humanely, always. And coupled with that, there needs to be a shift in society's attitude regarding responsible pet ownership. Personally, I feel that needs to be regulation regarding spaying/neutering so no one has unaltered cats (and dogs) without good reason.
This is not to say I wouldn't help strays. If they can be caught and are tame and healthy enough for adoption, then that would be the ideal solution.
Just throwing my
in!:

Hi I don't believe that ferals should be dealt too with poison/killing (I'm from NZ!). To me cats come first over any other walks of life - but that's just IMO.

Hello & welcome to tcs. I know what you mean about hard drive death. My son bought an external hd & we've put all out photos on it & now can't access them. Luckily I've kept all my memory cards but he's reused his over & over.
