OK, I'm not clear on a few points here. Did Hope live in an apartment? Or her own home? If an apartment, I would contact the manager and encourage a thorough search; no manager wants the smell of a dead cat in the apartment, when it comes time to rent it.

If it was her own home, is it being held empty or put on the market? If the latter, again, I would contact the agent handling it. When I was in real estate, I would have gladly tried to find the cat for the owner/family/whoever, if someone thought it might be hidden.

Wait a minute I thought you and Susan had accents. I didn't realize I had one.

From what i gather it was a rented apartment. The only problem is i doubt even if we knew who to contact they would speak to anyone other than a family member, and i think their all back in their own home towns now.

Animal Control definitely went through numerous times, and I have no doubt that others have been through with the cleaning of the apartment, and clearing of her personal belongings.

I am fairly confident that Simba would no longer be in the apartment.

Designate a caretaker or caretakers to be contacted IMMEDIATELY upon your passing or incapacitation. Make sure you are in contact regularly with these persons or person. Maybe your vet clinic or a rescue; designate money for their care. This has been a real eye opener for me!
Kudos to everyone working so hard to get these poor kitties to a safe, secure place and many that Simba either turns up or has been taken in by someone who will take good care of him..

I couldn't agree more with AddieBee's assessment above, it's so very important to have a plan of action in case the worse happens.

Sounds like it, although if there's any furniture left, it's always a possibility. And under the refrigerator, too.

Reading this thread has been amazing! I knew that this was a caring community, but wow!
I wish I could take in her kitties, but I am at my limit here.

OMG! How terrible! Those poor babies!

I'm so happy that people from here stepped in to help. I'm sorry that they all have to be separated from each other though. It was probably Hope's wish that they could stay together, but at least they are all in loving homes.

I hope there is some news about Simba, even if it's isn't ideal news. It's better to know than to be left wondering.

Poor Simba!

....but Susan, Sarah, Nial.... I'm at a loss for words. Thank you. Truly. And thank you for not taking the family's word on what happened - that is the really amazing part.

Everyone here, I think, has known from within a few days of joining that TCS is a special place with special people. There truly are angels on earth, and I think this site has them all.

Nial, I don't know you, but thank you for being so wonderful and conscientious.

Susan - you're amazing, and I'm grateful for all your hard work.

Sarah -

I'm proud to be a part of this community.

Laurie

P.S. Perhaps someone can put a "Have You Seen this Cat?" poster together for Simba - maybe including the info that if he's been given a home we'd just like to be notified? ...and perhaps someone from animal control, the police, or someone can put them up around Hope's apartment building?

I have not had time to visit this site as I am on too many "make your cat well boards" <sigh> but I DO Remember Hope! She and I used to have so much fun discussing our "would like to have" future husbands.

May i ask what killed her? I too am very grateful to the members of this site for saving her babies

I am now in my 60ies and worry about what will happen to mine if I die.

This community is filled with so many good-hearted people, and I'm happy to be a part of it.
I'm glad the kitties are now safe and sound, and many that Simba is found soon, or that he is being taken care of.

Any way someone could convince AC to set out a live/humane trap baited with food JUST in case Simba found some amazing hiding place inside Hope's apt?

thanks for the donation info - i donated in memory of Hope Hacker, & also mentioned the 3 cats the rescue assisted w/by name.

i wish i was in a position to take either Shane or SunLee, but i'm really at my limit. they're both such beauties - i'm sure they'll find a wonderful home, soon!

Susan, Sarah, Nial - you all did a great job handling this!

I would like to add my kudos to all involved in rescuing Hope's cats. Thank you for the donation information. I sent them a donation in Hope's memory and to thank them for caring for the cats. I know that Hope's healed heart is overflowing with love from above to everyone that ensured her beloved cats are going to be well taken care of. Vibes to Simba
