OH they are all so adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have seven cats - four are b&w, though Ming Loy just has a little "bikini" of white - a teeney strip on her chest and a little "v" below her abdomen.

I am in LOVE with Bilo's feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Mia is just tooooooo cute! And Reese? And Bilo's ear tip?

You gotta see this:

Billy and Bing:

Bing (the grey one) we managed to get adopted out. We REALLY wanted them to go together because they were so close. But we got them ear tipped because we originally thought they were feral. And we ended up adopting Billy (the b&w) because we couldn't leave him out there alone.... so he's ear tipped too! And he had NO issues transitioning to being an inside kitty even though he was older than a year, so he (and Bing) must not have been feral either.

I love your kitties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JuneBug- thanks! For some reason it seems like the grey cats always have the prettiest faces. I don't think I've ever seen one without a perfectly symmetrical, pretty little face.

Cheylink- Oh my goodness is Maia cute! Is she still a kitten or grown up now? If you have any pics of her I'd like to see
I thought the exact same thing about Bilo's face in that picture.

LDG - I wonder if any of these guys were born out in feral colonies and just decided that the good life was with the humans??? Bilo seemed like he knew a sweet deal when he saw one, but is still really a "cat's cat". Good thing I didn't know about Billy and Bing, I probably would have taken both of them, and then my boyfriend would have kicked me and the menagerie out of the house. Do you foster a lot or work in a shelter? If so that's great, it's wonderful what you guys do for the cats!

OK just one more picture..

Ohhhhh, there's the beautiful Mia. Even in her 'children of the corn' pic, she's breathtaking. I love her attitude. Plus, the last pic of Reese is the best one yet.

I'm going to have a hard time with your pictures, because every time I see Reese my heart breaks that we had to split up Billy and Bing.
He's in a great home and VERY loved - but he's an alone kitty. I can't help feeling guilty about it. I just keep reminding myself it is SO much better than having to have survived the insanely freezing cold winter we had this year.

As to your rescue question.... thanks to TCS, we got REALLY involved in rescue. Just take a peek at our websites (built with other TCS members.
Links are in my siggy). It started with a bunch of kittens in our yard.... and grew into a huge TNR involvement (trap-neuter-release, just in case you're not familiar with the lingo yet). We used to foster, but we kept the hard-to-adopt out kitties (health or behavior problems). One of our kitties developed an autoimmune disease, and the vet said no more fosters. I was relieved, because I would get so attached, it was really difficult for me. Well - it was for both of us, really. Most of our work was just TNR with the older ferals, because that was what the issue is in our rural area. But whenever there were kittens involved, we always worked with the vets around here, and they basically helped us place all of them. We did start a no-kill shelter, but it's basically up and running for four years now on its own. Hubby has serious health problems, so our TNR work has been curtailed, so its kind of forced us to network more with other rescues than we did before. We'll still trap in an emergency, but seven years into it, we're more of a resource point than anything.

One more "I MISS YOU BING" picture - but you do see why I can't look at Reese and not think of Bing, right? :

Give scritches from me to that gorgeous group of kitties please!

And to your other question? Yes, I think they were born in feral colonies. However, I think they were born in colonies that were exposed to friendly humans from a VERY early age. I don't know about your Bilo, but both Billy and Bing talk quite a bit. Ferals born to a feral mom and raised by her do NOT talk. So I don't know what happened with Billy and Bing. Billy adapted to living indoors REALLY quickly - no fear of noises, etc. I stay in touch with Bing's mom, and Bing has taken about four months to not flee at the drop of a pin, so he acts more "ferally," as it were - but even he's a cuddle bug, demands pets and lap time ALL the time, and has slept in bed with them from night one.

So I do think there are "human friendly" ferals out there - they're just the exception once they're older if they're still outside.
I'm sure glad they're loving the good life now though!

Hi Laurie,

Bing looks so much like Reese when we first got her! Reese is a little chunkier now but their faces definitely have a close resemblance. I was looking at your websites and they are really great. There's a ton of information on there I didn't know, as to the sheer amount of cats without homes or that get put down
I think it's awesome what you are doing for the cats!!!

We have a lot of "strays" in our area too. We live in the city so they are all alley-cats and seem to be mainly solitary unless they are all from the same litter. We feed them from our porch but other than that have not gotten much more involved. I saw mentioned on your website that they have information on this site about what to do about ferals so I'll look into that. The poor things have a lot of hazards around here. We can't take them all in but I'm sure there's something else I could do in terms of getting them fixed or getting them to a no-kill, etc.

Bilo definitely talks! When I was driving him home for the first time, he suddenly let out this LOUD, low "RRoooowwwww!!!", and I'd never heard a cat make that noise before, so I jumped and said "What was THAT?". He eventually learned other phrases and sentences, but every now and then he will revert back to his long low Reeeeroooowwww when he really wants something.. hehe. In my gut I think he was part of a colony, the way he acts with other cats. I never thought about how he felt getting separated from his friends, I'm sure he had some, but he found a buddy and soulmate when we brought home Mia. He acted like her mother and let her nurse on him, and groomed and raised her. They are 2 peas in a pod.

I'm glad that Billy and Bing ended up with happy lives with loving families. I am looking through your cats' stories now too and your tuxies have such cute little faces. I am such a sucker for the tuxes. I'm going to continue looking through your websites today, there is so much great information on there!

Well, make sure to take enough time to keep taking and posting pics!

Just FYI, when it comes to feral rescue, beware of "no kill" shelters. Many mean they don't kill adoptable animals - and ferals are "not adoptable." Of course, many abandoned or lost animals seem like ferals at first (more of an issue in urban areas) - but once fostered, they return to the loving, trusting kitties they once were. But it can be really hard to tell.

TCS is one of the few places that helps people when it comes to socializing older ferals. Most of the national rescues that advocate feral rescue and TNR (Alley Cat Allies and Best Friends) use a rule of thumb that if feral kittens are older than 8 - 10 weeks, they can't be socialized, which is just crazy. Older than a few months and it can get difficult (well, take time!), but there are SO many people here that have taken in older ferals and they're happy, loving kitties now.
It can take a lot of time - depends on the cat, and over three years old, and it shouldn't be done.

But sorry for blah, blah, blahing! You got me going. But there are SO MANY people on TCS that do so much more than Gary and I have ever done!!!!!!!!!!

But I'm loving your kitties, so please don't forget to post more pics!

I will have to do some more research about the organizations around here. From what I know, there are quite a few kill shelters around, and an animal control, but I don't know who is doing TNR, who has a no-kill shelter, etc, in the city. I'm not sure the cats around here are monitored at all.. and I know for a fact a lot of them don't have homes because some of the kittens were born outside under the neighbor's porch. I welcome all the information and advice you've given so don't feel like you are blah blah blahing at all! I am just beginning to become aware of what a big problem this is for the cats and would like to get involved in any way I can.

I definitely agree with you that even older cats can be socialized, it just seems logical.. if a person is giving them good food and a warm home, they're going to come around someday.

As for the pictures, someone will probably have to tell me to stop at some point.. I am obsessed with taking pictures of these guys!!

Maybe. The first thing I did when I saw Mia's picture was to check your location to see if they might be litter mates.

Aprile- Austin is very handsome! I know people say that fur color isn't linked to personality but the 2 tuxedos are clowns.. I love it.

myfamiliars-- Thank you
She is cute but a tad creepy.. here are a couple of her Children of the Corn pics.. it weirds me out when she directs that look at me for 5 minutes or so. I just keep asking her "what??"
