Signs of Spring

Thread Starter
-The snow is melting
-The blackbirds and robins are in the trees
-I saw a few people in shorts yesterday
- the green shoots of the crocuses are trying to break through the snow
-Pitchers and catchers report to Spring training today
-Brett Favre has announced his retirement.

What are some of your signs of Spring?

My tulips are coming up

I can hear the birds and insects

my rose bushes are blooming

I can see the sky

We don't have spring so much as flip flopping weather then directly into summer heat. So 60s in winter is normal here. Though one thing does signal in that spring is creeping back - devastating tornadoes.

Tornadoes are really scary.

It's raining and it's cold here.
Still, I have Spring fever.
Yesterday, during a lull in the rain, I went to Home Depot to look for a geranium plant for my balcony...
I was the only customer there.

I have been seeing reports on CNN about the snow in England but did not realize it was in your area.
What do your babies think about that strange white stuff?

My yard & the shelter's yard are mucky, muddy, poopy messes.

My driveway has turned to quicksand (best drive out fast!).

No more milkbone snowballs!

Riley's chipmunk has been out and about in the back patio this week because its been in the 60's and 70's but it supposed to turn cold again this weekend.

When I leave work in the evening, it's no longer totally dark...I can see hints of pink and pale blue in the sky.

My sweetie went for a walk in the park the other day and came home with a little daisy he picked. One of those little tiny guys that lurks in the grass. I found a bottle cap to put some water in and it opened up and lasted several days.

The chives are starting to come up.

It's still light when I get home (if I don't do a bazillion errands on the way).

The birds have been especially chirpy
The sun is waking me earlier and earlier
I haven't had to bundle up like an Eskimo
And there is a confused honey bee buzzing me when I fill the bird feeder.

We plan to start our garden this weekend. Need to get my potatos in the ground now!!!
I am so jealous. We still have 6 feet of snow that needs to melt.
A sign of spring here is getting 10" of snow....tonight. *grumble*
post #15 of 29
some sporadic rains have fall at my area......and more humity...

I have to remind myself that Spring is not really here yet, even though all the snow is almost gone and it's been raining most of the week.
I've started planting seeds inside though to get them started for spring planting. Can't wait to see them grow up!

I planted a few seeds inside yesterday as well. The temperatures are dropping again, but it was nice to have that brief thaw.
Its still a month too early for planting seeds here. The unseasonably warm weather (our late January thaw) melted a great deal of snow but still lots left on the ground.

Ask me again in about 8 weeks!

The worst of it is down in the South, and i'm in the North. We were expecting it, but not as bad

The kids love it, so i put the heater on in the conservatory for them because they try catching the flakes. Sophie was chirping away with frustration because she couldn't catch them

signs of spring here...

Fred is willing to poop outside.

During the winter, its hard to get him to go outside.. he wants to pee quick and get his butt back inside where its warm.. I swear it takes longer for me to argue with him about doing it outside than what it would actually take if he'd just go do it!

You know its getting nice outside if he's willing to take the time to finish buisiness!

We're a couple of weeks away from spring breaking out, but the surest sign of it here is when the scissortails show up. Until they're here, we can still have a significant cold snap.

YES!! I'm just glad I'm not driving home in the dark anymore. It's usually dark by the time I get home, but by then I'm on familiar roads. I'm still waiting for the big blizzard (I know it's coming....I can feel it....)

I don't consider it spring until I see that first robin. So far, no luck. They aren't THAT stupid.
Spring? What's that? A few weeks ago it was quite nice, about -2, but now it's more like -22. There's still about a foot of snow on the ground and it was supposed to snow today! In the southeast they got a bunch of snow, enough to cause a school's ceiling to partially collapse.
We're 2 weeks from Autumn and we've just had the most horrendous bushfires.

Spring infortunately is far away..
Well I can still see the grass through the snow.
Although its still cold out, I was able to go for a walk yesterday.

But the #1 sign of spring right now is:

I can feel every stinkin' pothole there is now that they aren't covered with snow.
We have lost some of our snow this past week but other then that it still pretty much looks like winter here and looking at the long range weather forecasts it still for awhile yet. I did see two crows the other day which is sort of a precursor to spring.
There have been 2-3 days of rain over the past two weeks and the desert is an explosion of colors.
Soon the cacti and mesquite will be in bloom adding even more paint to the canvas.

The doves are coo-cooing away at their mates and the grackles and songbirds have returned en masse.
I have chives and tarragon sprouting. Nobody else yet.
Well, let's see...the last few days it was really warm out and I saw people walking around in shorts and tank tops. A few even had sunburns.

Of course, I was in Mexico.

Now that I'm home it's pretty much the same old cold. (We did have a melt last week, though, so at least you can see around the snow mounds when you drive.)
