I am going to be a fourth and agree with the others. Maisie is confused too and is going to be looking to you for guidance. You don't have to do everything all at once, maybe just a little at a time. Let Maisie in and let her comfort you. We all know she won't replace Kitty in your heart, but let her help you in her own Maisie way.
Aw, Linny.
I have to agree with Karen and the others. You and Maisie need each other right now like never before. Let her help you, dear.
And you help her, too.

I'm very sorry to hear about Kitty. I know that you gave him all the love and attention he could have ever wanted and had a good life with you while he was here. RIP, Kitty.

Linny - this will sound stupid, but I did all those things not even a year ago after Damita left me. To this day - I haven't washed the bed she spent her last months in. Her food & water bowls are in a cupboard, still unwashed. I have her favorite toys stashed away, too.

You need to let Maisie in, she'll help you through this. Dory got me through when I lost Damita - he was as lost as I was. He didn't replace her - he helped me heal.

I was reading another thread and saw you had posted and noticed your signature--I was very sad and came here to read of the passing.

I've never known the feeling of losing a cat--but I do know the feeling of sending a beloved pet over the bridge I sent two very special pets in 2008 over the bridge. So I just wanted to say I'm thinking about you and you did everything you could don't ever doubt yourself and hold tight to Maisie. I thought it would be hard to move on from my losses but I have found so much love in my remaining pets they have helped me heal immensely.

Thanks everyone

I just want to assure you that Maisie isn`t being neglected
I went and got into bed with her this afternoon and we watched a dvd for about 2 hours. Once she`s had her cuddle though she likes to go to sleep, so I`ve left the door open for her. She is still asleep on the bed though. She sleeps a LOT!

I said to Susan that I`m woried Kitty will come to say goodbye and I`ll miss him because he`ll see Maisie in his place and he`ll go. I know it sounds crazy but so many people say when a cat passes it comes back to say goodbye. My sister saw one of her cats again a week after he was PTS

Maisie sees her room as her sanctuary, I think so I`ll leave her door open for longer each day.

Nat, you`re braver than me
I put Kittys food bowls and carrier in the big bin outside because I couldn`t stand to look at them or have another cat use them

I know it will get easier. One minute I`m ok, the next I`m sniffing the end of the sofa where he last slept to see if it still smells of him
It didn`t.

Oh man! I just want to scream!

I believe they come to us in which ever way that will let us know it is them. He would not miss saying good bye to you for anything. He knows you need that reassurance. When Smokey passed away I didn't believe she came back, but now I realize that when Levi picked me, it was because she told him I needed him and would be a good mom. I missed it then, but once I opened my mind & heart I saw. If you keep your mind & heart open you will see him!

Oh sweetie. It hurts me so much to see you going through this. I know it hurts...a lot. I really don't think that when Kitty comes back that he will go. He loves you and Maisie and won't leave just because you are showing Maisie attention and affection. Let Maisie in. Kitty would want you to. You two need each other.

I was so glad to see the post that Maisie is okay and not being left out, it is so hard for them to, and they know that something is wrong with Mom, which frightens and confuses them more. I know without a doubt that Kitty will visit you. I also believe that he may continue to visit you until you are strong enough for him to move on. I have known my cats that have passed are there, sometimes I think I see them and go to speak, then realize they are gone. Missy used to sleep wrapped around the top of my head and she did that a few times after she passed, I felt it and would reach to pet her. He is close, never fear, and it will become a comfort for you.

Oh Linny, we know your not neglecting Maisie, we just want you both to bond more so you can get comfort from each other

That's great that you've spent some quality time with her. All you need to do is increase it each day and you'll both get used to each others company more

Not everyone will see or feel their cats that have crossed over, so try and not depend on that too much, because i'd hate to think your getting your hopes built up then nothing happens
As long as your still thinking about your little boy, then Kittie will always be alive in your heart

when my maisie was killed by a car outside my house, i wasn't alone in my grief. her litter brother sinbad was so sad he started to lose his fur. this prompted me to adopt another cat (not that i'm saying you should do this) but my point is about our babies coming back to see us.

the cat i adopted was daisy, a seriously grumpy puss. well the first night she was with me i woke up to feel a cat trying to get under the covers. i let her in and she curled up and went to sleep beside me. this was the one and only time in the 12 and a half years we had together, that she did this.

maisie had slept under the covers with me nearly every night of our 3 years together. i firmly believe that she came back, through daisy, to comfort me.

kitty will be glad that you have maisie and he may show that through her. no matter what though, you will know.

I know what your going through, sort of. I went through most of what you went through when my cats went to RB. No, Maisie will never replace Kitty but at least she'll replace SOME of the hole that Kitty laet. Please love Maisie for who she is.

I can`t thank you all enough for the support you`ve given me
Certain RLF that I thought would understand obviously don`t but I`m not going to dwell on it. It just makes you realise who your real friends are

I`ll be going back to work tomorrow and getting back to a bit of normality.

Today has been kind of weird. I don`t know how to describe it. I haven`t seen Kitty or definatly 'felt' him but I just got this feeling a few times, like when he was here and all content. I`ve been talking to him a bit because I was always chatting to him when he was alive.

That ache in my heart overwhelms me still but I do feel like Kitty is at peace now and not cross with me

Maisie is here as I type. Her door has been open since yesterday and was open all night
She doesn`t come out that much but I think because her sight is so bad she likes to stay in the bedroom where she knows where everything is.

If they don't have animals Linny they won't understand, plus like a lot of people, some don't know what to say even with the loss of a human

His spirit is all around you in the flat Linny, so he hasn't left you completely
And talk to him if you want to, my mum used to talk to my dad when he died, and my friend who lost her dad last year talks to her dad when she visits his grave as well

Kittie won't be cross with you Linny. You didn't let him suffer and he loves you for that

Awwww brilliant!
Give her time, once she gets used to the fact that the door is open to roam around she might still come out, especially if she hears your voice in another room

See, your comforting each other already

Hi Linny. You are still in my thoughts and prayers. Its good that you and Maisie are bonding. Like the others have said, Maisie can help you through this and Kitty may use Maisie to show you that its ok. A lot of your friends may not understand, especially if they don't have furbabies of their own. We understand though. Most of us have been there. We are here for you whenever you need us.

susan summed it all up perfectly. i have only one of my friends that truly understands. we have shared the loss of far too many of our dear souls together.

things will return, in time, to relative normality and i think you are right to get back out there now.

kitty is all around you and he'll be helping you get through.

i recently saw some photographs of spirit orbs and it was amazing how many of them were feline or canine. happy little faces enjoying time with their loved ones.

it is so good that you have maisie there too as physical presence is as important as spiritual.

Linny, I am still following this thread and thinking of Kitty, and I am glad that you and Maisie are giving each other some comfort. I dread the day I lose one of my boys because I will be beyond a wreck, so I can empathize to some extent. Many people, even those who have cats, don't quite get how deep this love can be. Be gentle to yourself and to Maisie and keep coming back here for support. There are many people world-wide who are thinking of you and your beloved Kitty.

Maisie has started coming out more. I hate to admit this but in the afternoon after work I used to watch Jeremy Kyle ( I know! I know! He`s a horrible man, but it`s quite entertaining. ) with Kitty then when he`d gone to sleep I`d sneak off into Maisies room and watch a dvd while she went to sleep on me( hard life, eh?!
)

Well, I gave her her lunch then went to the lounge and she was wandering around. She came in, went out, came back and sat on my lap, went out came back and layed on sofa... So she is getting used to having the run of the place now
I got a pic on my phone so it`s not the best quality and I need a new lens for my camera, so when that comes I will take some more pics of her.

The people I work with didn`t say a word about Kitty which really upset me, so before I left I asked if they were peed off with me ( I thought they might be annoyed that I`d taken 2 days off ). They said, no, they knew how much I loved Kitty and they decided it was better not to say anything because they couldn`t change anything

I keep remembering odd things he liked like he liked to be tucked under my arm like a set of bagpipes

When I get my new lens I will look out for orbs down here. You never know I guess.

Oh yeah! Here`s the pic of Maisie making herself at home
