i adore pure black cats - some of my pure black fosters have gone in no time, some have been waiting ages, so it is no better in the UK - one last year was the youngest foster I had (5yo) and she was here longer than the 7yo (tortie - although strictly speaking Lucy had been here longer, but from teh time she was ready to rehome), and the 13yo tabby - although as luck had it, I got a call the day the 13yo was going, so she did go an hour before, but she had been overlooked both times. Molly was overlooked for 8 months, but I am glad, as she is fantastic and it meant I got to keep her. WE have a litter of kittens in at the moment, 4 gingers, a dark tortie and a black, and I know who will go quicker.

Such gorgeous kitties - I'm really partial to all-black cats. They do seem to be the ones who literally reach out to whoever is passing by, too.

I'm sorry to say my husband is one of those who specifically stated he didn't want a black cat.

However, on a happier note, after my kitty found me at the humane society and I was saying good bye to her, as I was going to pick her up the next day, a lady and her daughter struck up a conversation with me. They told me that yesterday, they were choosing between two cats - my kitty and a black one. They chose the black one. She told me how happy she was that I chose Squeaky, and I told her how glad I was that she was adopting the little black kitty. Alls well that ends well.

Its sad and true.
All the black and black and white cats no one wants here also.
They had them on the news here.
Thats how we got Coco.
Her mom was a seal point siamese and all the kittens looked siamese except Coco.
My sister went back to get a siamese looking kitten but they were all gone except Coco.
She was well worth the 45 dollars I paid for here.
She was left just because she is black and white.
My sister has her all black son Midnight.
I named him.
I knew n one would want him just because he is black.
My Oreo Cookie Monster is black and white also.
My brothers cat had kittens and I said give me the black or the black and white one.
Then I found out the black and white one has fcks.
I said give me the one with fcks no one will want her.
The mom is fixed now.
My step mom comes over and she says all your cats are ugly except Meeko.
Meeko is a patched torbie tabby.
I would get a black or black and whit cat again.
Cleo my sphynx is black and white also even though she dosent look it.
I wanted to adopt Samatha so bad from petco a few years ago but we had limit on cats then.

What a horrible thing to say to you - that all your cats are ugly except the stripey one!

Those pictures break my heart! Our black kittens are always really fast to go.

My friend just adopted a 6 week old Black DSH - his name is Jake!

Today is proof - had 4 families in looking at cats & they completely ignored these two - despite them reaching out the cage at them!

If we let them go at 6 weeks they would probably be adopted quicker but we keep them with their moms when possible

Tell me about it!
When people are buying kittens from me they always want to take them much younger.

My friend got hers from the paper, not a shelter

We had so many people in looking for younger than 8 week old kittens for christmas gifts - they were all sent on their way with a stern talking to about pets as gifts and kittens staying with the moms until old enough.

I best most of them found their too young kittens somewhere else

I too love black cats. Our Ebony was a sweet, loving boy. The black cats at the shelter I volunteered at were the friendliest and most loving. I'd sit on the floor and immediately be surrounded by 4-5 black cats. If anything happened to Bijou, God forbid, my next kitty would be a black cat from a shelter.

Arrggh! I'm going to learn not to look at posts like this! We have six cats, three are black and sweeter, nicer cats can't be found.

I hope those kitties find somebody like me - and most of the rest of the people here who replied to this post!

Those kitties are gorgeous.
I wish more people would appreciate the true beauty of black cats. I've had a black cat in my life for 15+ years (my baby girl, Katie), and I'm still struck by her beauty.
