Marley is my first kitten so Im not sure if this is normal or not...when i clip his nails some of them split, like they are flaking off. maybe it's my clippers..i dunno. is this normal??

Don't worry. A cat's nails are surrounded by a sheath that is shed periodically. When a cat scratches things it removes old sheaths and exposes the new sharp nails. Some times I find an old nail sheath on the floor or bed. When a nail with an old sheath is clipped the sheath will split and eventually fall off.
