adding my 'get well soon' & to the rest!

Thank you for explaining that! I've always wondered...just figured that influenza is the same as what we normally refer to as "the flu" or a Gastrointestinal virus.

I may have to try the Pedialyte. I know that Gatoraid and cream of chicken soup (we were out of chicken noodle) don't happen on my stomach yet. Ew. Bad combination. Ew.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts, vibes, and prayers. MA, I'll do the same for you. I totally understand what you mean by the water hurts in the shower. Everything hurts and throbs in pain.

milk is quite hard to digest [it's often an ingredient in cream soups] especially w/a tummy bug. clear broth [chicken, beef] is best.

You never stated earlier that it was all GI symptoms.
Just something to throw out there as a suggestion. I had never been as ill as I was when I had C diff. They initially thought it was a virus in the ER because there was one going around at the time and mistreated me with the wrong antibiotics. It took nearly two days in the hospital for them to finally figure out they needed to take a stool sample.

If you're immune system is down or you've been taking meds that would be hard on the GI it makes you more susceptible to all sorts of bad bacteria. There's also the possibility you ate something bad. I had very bad diarrhea and could only keep down small amounts of water by the time I was admitted to the hospital, though.

Watch your temp, blood pressure, and heart rate. If anything looks bad get yourself to the ER.

One of the things that had me actually going to the ER was a 150-160bpm sitting heart rate (that's usually only "normal" when I stand). It was because I had a bad fever and my potassium was down to 2.9 - I needed IV fluids at that point. If you're vomiting and/or have diarrhea it doesn't take long for your electrolyte levels to fall, and possibly faster then you can take it in.

You poor thing! Have you ever tried Emetrol to ease the vomiting? It can help calm your stomach so you can keep some fluids in you.

I hope you shake it off quickly, hon...

I'm sorry you're feeling so awful Heidi

Please take care of yourself and try to get some sort of liquid down. I second the pedialyte idea. It couldn't hurt to try it. It may be easier on your stomach than the gatorade.

Hope you feel better today, Heidi.

The old BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast - is a good diet when your tummy isn't cooperating. Nice and bland but nutritious.

i would skip the gatorade/pedialyte and get some SmartWater instead... no sugar or artificial coloring... just water and electrolytes.

feel better soon. (=

I think I have finally turned the corner. I actually felt hungry tonight. Which I should have...I haven't really eaten anything except crackers and broth, a little rice and 2 pieces of toast since Friday. So I made a bigger serving of rice and actually ate it all. My stomach isn't entirely happy, but everything is staying where it should.

Strange_Wings, I should clarify...the worst of the symptoms were GI, but the horrible aches and pains, intense fatigue, cold-sweat/fever, and intensifying of all the "normal" symptoms I have with MS definitely weren't GI. The GI problems also really stuck out to me because I usually get nauseous and stomach cramping when I'm sick, but I rarely actually throw up. So doing so for hours on end, and more than one day, was definitely bad for me. And because I have MS, which is an auto-immune disorder to begin with, and the treatment with the interferon that I'm on is actually trying to stifle the immune system so it will slow down in attacking the myelin sheath around the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord) nerves...well, it's pretty common for people with MS to get colds and viruses worse than most. Especially when they're in a flare, which I am. So not only did I get the worst bug going right now, I got it worse than most. Oh lucky me!

But I know that this isn't nearly as bad as many others get sick. Heck, after thinking about it, I was definitely more sick when I was 5 and had Scarlet Fever (but since I was so young and so sick, I don't remember most of that, thank goodness!).

Thank you all for those powerful TCS Vibes! I know it's helping me kick this bug!!

I am so glad you are feeling better, Heidi. But still take it easy while your body is recouping. You dont want to a relapse, especially taking the Interferon. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and send you lots of recovery vibes

Heidi,

I am so sorry I missed this (haven't been skimming messages in the lounge much lately). I am glad you are beginning to feel better...still take it easy, sometimes you feel better before your body is ready to charge back into daily routines
