Well after a week of being here and avoiding me,Bam FINALLY warmed up to me last night and only when I called his name...so while I don't like the name Bam,I will keep it,as he knows it and responds to it.

But he came over and started purring and loving the attention. The week he has been here,he just avoided me.Bit me once too.It is great that he finally accepted me!

What great news! I personally kinda like the name Bam but I'm sure he'll aquire plenty of nick names that he'll learn with you.

It would be easy to change the name to "Stan" or some other similar sounding name. Just start alternating the new name with the old one and gradually phase out the old one.

I got my dogs when they were 6 mos and 9 mos respectively. They were strays/toss outs and while they had obviously had "homes" and names, they had to relearn everything. One of my dogs didn't even "speak" English (had been abandoned by migrant farm workers). It didn't take too long and they adjusted to everything and it was kind of fun to see what kind of things turned them on. The sight of old chevrolet pickups would get Katie excited and Sally went positively BANANAS when she'd see a pizza box.

Thanks!
I am happy. He comes over to me now when he wants affection...or food! Haha. But he doesn't run away, hide, bite, hiss or any of those things anymore. He is afraid of my daughter still, but he just hides when she is around.

I have a few pictures...I am uploading them in a couple of minutes!
