Should I spray Feliway around my cats litter box?

Both of my cats use the same box (we clean it every day - and they've done that since they were kittens...their choice, not ours!).

But lately they've been going in places other than the box. We've had them both medically checked out and everything looks good. Not sure if its just one cat (I suspect it is) or both but I've got some Feliway and was wondering if I should spray it around the box to convince them that this is a "friendly" place?

I know the idea of Feliway is to KEEP cats from going where they shouldn't, but at the same time, I want them to be comfortable using the box like they used to. Nothing has changed situation, food or litter-wise so I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do!

You might try putting out a second litter box first. I've read in several books and here on the TCS forums that you should have one box for each cat plus one extra. So, for 1 cat have 2 litterboxes, 3 cats, 4 litterboxes, etc. That said, I have 6 cats (3 kittens, 3 cats) and I do not have 7 litterboxes.

I had 2 boxes for my 2 cats and it was working just fine. Then I took in a little stray and while she was using the litterbox I would occasionally find pee in inappropriate places. I put out a 3rd box and the problem stopped immediately. (Had to laugh, though. All three cats started using the new litterbox and didn't even leave footprints in the original two.
I decided it was because those two were covered boxes and the kitties didn't really care for them even though they'd been using them.)

One (or both) of them probably has decided they don't like sharing any more. I'd get a 2nd pan and put it a few feet from the other and see if that solves the problem.
