I have been feeding my 20 week old kittens at 6:30 am - wet and dry mix. Then, I leave out dry for the day while my dh and I work. I was waiting until 7:00 to feed them the dry and wet mix again. They do not eat as much as what the directions say on the pouches/cans and I feel so guilty. The vet gave them a clean bill of health but right now we are at 1/4 cup am with 1/2 a pouch each for am and pm(at any one feeding this is all they will eat) This is nowhere near what they should be eating all day.

I want to be able to feed them the wet/dry mix as soon as I get home at 5:30 and then again just a pouch at 9:30 or so. If I leave out only dry, they will not eat it.

Can i do this and it be alright for them? They are so much more active now. I want to increase the feedings.
Please help?
Thanks

Questions

Is all the food gone when you first come home? Do they act like they are hungry? When you give them the 2nd meal, do they eat it fast or slow?

Are you giving them both the canned and dry at the same time?

they eat the canned and dry at the same time. most of the time the dry food is gone when I get home but not always. When I give them the mixed, they always chow down right away.
The pm meal is always as if they are hungry. I know that they may be responding to the canned food. I am just aondering if I should get another wt meal in during the day sometime. Thanks for the reponse...hard to type, one is asleep nest to me on my keyboard.

I am gone for long periods at a time, working a 12-hour shift plus driving time. That's far too long for the kitties to go between meals, so I always leave dry food out for them. I've noticed that they usually eat more during the night than in the daytime. Cats are naturally nocturnal animals, so I don't think you need to worry about feeding them too late.
