OK, just to add a little fun to the thread, I will reveal that there is one matchup that are are buying for each other.

Still have plenty to buy though. I have been stalking my SS and reading every post they make, learning as much as I can about their likes and dislikes.

I've never been involved with a secret santa, let alone an online one
But I have a couple questions:

What if they can sort of guess where you live by your return address? Even if it's just a state, they can still narrow it down. Are the post offices still inforcing a return address or has it been long enough since 9/11 and what not?

Also, do you find out who your secret santa is at the end?

i've put zip only on mine the last 2 years, no problems. but i wasn't sending out of the country, either.
yeah, if you work at it [assuming your secret santa attempted to keep it a secret!] you'll eventually find out.

I'm getting really excited!
This is so much fun! I have my list all planned out for my recipient: I just hope she likes what I've planned!
I'll probably go over my budget, but what the heck! Christmas only comes once a year!

You can change your location in your profile so people don't even know your state. Plus, a lot of us know each other by our screen names or our first names. Some people send their package when on an out of town trip, say, on Thanksgiving. I've used my maiden name with my address. Or, last year a member sent me cards to forward on to HER secret santa for Halloween and Thanksgiving - that must've been confusing, LOL!

Oh no, here comes another
Of course it is going to you!
I'm so glad I don't have to keep up the charade anymore.
I've been chipping off pieces of Plymouth Rock for you. I thought they would make an excellent addition to your landscape.

Do you think I can just write "rocks" on the customs form?

Once in a while, a santa really wants to remain a secret and you do not find out.

The year before last I did not put a return address on my package and mailed it from another state.

Last year I did not bother to hide it as Kelly would have known instantly from the contents.

Since this year I am sending a box of rocks to Russian Blue in Canada
, I will need to fill out a customs form, so I can't hide who I am. Customs forms make it a little sticky. There are a few ways around that. You could put a friend's name and address, a parent, a spouse, etc.

I'm not creative or clever enough to do all that sneaky stuff
Some will keep you guessing for quite a while, but most will give in and tell you if you beg!

Once the gifts start arriving there will be a thread to post pictures of what you received, and thats usually where you will find out who its from. If there are any clues in the package, other members can help you guess who it is.

If I remember correctly, one of the best clues was when Mooch&Noodles put a little cow and a piece of macaroni in the box. "Moo" and "noodle", LOL.

Theoretically, about $25 plus or minus. There's a lot of us who don't do so good at keeping to that, though, especially if you collect stuff throughout the year.

That's a crafty idea. I like it!
It gives ME a clue as to what I can do, b/c I'm not always very good at being "sneaky".

Well, that blows my budget! There's no way I'm gonna be able to stick to only $25.00 - not with what I have in mind.
