There are many threads in IMO that discuss reasons why not all of us agree. The way the Chinese "cleaned up" for the olympics is one gruesome one.

Origionally i was not going to watch the Olympics at all because of the way i feel reguarding China and their actions (I won't elaborate any more than that as that's not what this thread is about). However i decided that i want to at least support the US one way or another- so i did decide to watch. I do not agree with China, but i do support our country's team -so i'm cheering the US on

I'm glad i decided too watch- did anyone just see the amazing mens 4x100 swim? It was awesome!!!!
Eight 100th's of a second....wow!

Needless to say my favorites are swimming (LOVE Michael Phelps). I'm also a huge of track & field, diving, and gymnastics too.

Did anyone watch the synchronised diving tonight?? WOW!

And the gymnastics? The Chinese girl on the uneven bars did that AMAZING routine, then fell at a relatively easy part.
Her routine was spectacular otherwise!

I am watching Gymastics right now. My friends Son was in the 1976 Olympics and he won a gold medal.
Sadly he died when he went to pick his son up at school on a rainy day. I am friends with his Mom who is 81 . I met her at Curves a few years ago.

I like women's gymnastics. I get sooo nervous for them
, especially on the balance beam! But it's amazing when they do a great job.

I also love high diving.

Well they are on right now over here, (5.15pm) but they seem to be the last event of the day.

Lots of them had fell off today!

Wow, Go team USA!

We dominated in swimming last night!!!! May and Walsh did great in beach volleyball, of course!

And the men's gymnastics team...wow! Bronze! For all they have been through, and having TWO alternates on the team...they did an amazing job!!! '

I am sad the men's synchro 10m diving did not get a medal. They were pretty close score wise and they did do a great job! I hope they are proud of themselves!

SO excited for tonight! WOMEN"S GYMNASTICS team finals!! Hopefully the judging will be more fair toward the US. Sunday's judging was horrible....so bias toward China, esp on beam..our girls did not get the scores they deserve! And more diving, and swimming tonight too! YAY!!

I knooow and it sucks! *Boo Actually they can reapply to be included in the 2016 Olympics but they are for sure eliminated from 2012. Hopefully everyone will make a stink and they will put it back in.

My faves are gymnastics, swimming and normal diving - not the synchronized one.

I think softball and baseball are sports that are really only popular in a few countries, which is why they're taking it out.

It would be like putting rugby union, or cricket in.

yeah, like ice hockey is popular in all countries? Or what about curling?? They didn't like that the USA dominates the sport. But the USOC says that it is because the sport is not timed and so "it creates scheduling conflicts." Riiight - Is gymnastics timed? Especially with the sloooow judging this year.

Oh I know, synchronized swmiiming and badminton (yes, that is how it is spelled) are much more intriguiing to watch.

I don't think curling is popular anywhere

I have no idea how they decide which sports to put in the Olympics. I don't think tennis should be there - the tennis players already have regular highly publicised tournaments and anybody who has a remote chance of a medal is already very highly paid.

Edit to add: I don't know why they have BMX racing in the Olympics... to me BMX is something kids do
And synchronised swimming - yes I'm sure the skill is impressive, and it's the only place people watch it - but why have a sport that only one gender does??

I'm more of a winter Olympics fan, but I do enjoy watching the gymnastics, swimming, and diving competitions during the summer Olympics. Oh - and basketball!

I admit, I like synchronized swimming. I love old Ester William's movies...and the thought of men trying to be like Ester Williams...
. I'm sorry, I'm sure they could, and make it look manly. That is kind of like boxing. Do they have female boxing? I honestly don't know but if they do, I know a few girls that should be on the team.

I don't know how they chose the sports either (what is curling anyway?). I also don't understand how they chose the athletes. I always thought olympics were for amatures but the basketball teams have people from the NBA on them. Aren't they professionals?
