Hi,

I am new to the group. I live in Panama and recently adopted a kitten that was rescued. He is now about 3 1/2 months old. He was basically trapped in a container from Florida to Panama for 7 days without food or water. When he was found he couldn't even open his eyes for the first 4 days and was basically terrified and skin and bone. At that time he was estimated to be about 2 1/2 months of age. He has grown a lot, plays, and eats very well. My concerns are 1) He has two hairless spots on his tail--no scabbing, redness, swelling, just no hair. They haven't changed for 1 week. I am putting an antibacterial/antifungal cream the vet prescribed. 2) He was entirely black when we got him but now he is getting white hair all over his body. When we got him he his fur was very thin. Any ideas or suggestions? Does this sound normal?

thanks

Hello and welcome. The loss of hair could be stress related. Just feed him the highest quality wet food you can to help him get some weight on him.

Good luck and thank you for looking after this poor kitty. If you have anymore questions, we will help you the best we can.

The colour canges sound like fever coat. Sometimes when cats have been sick, the pigment production in their fur gets temporarily disrupted so they get white hairs growing in all over.

The white hairs will eventually fall out, like all cat har, and if the cat is healthy now, be replaced by the original colour. This isn't anything to worry about.

Good luck with the kitten
