cut the loops off if it won't make it to large...
it should then just slip over Bumpy's head.
That's what I did with Sadie...
and at feeding time I would take it off and stand beside her will she ate.
Cut, cut, cut .... "make it work for you" ...project runway.
Sending Bumpy getting the drain out, healing and no diabetes vibes.
How are you and Bumpy doing?
Thanks much for the kind concern.
They used gauze to tie the collar on. When we went to the Vet to have the drain removed today, I asked them how to put it on and they kind of showed me. Doc said if Bumpy starts to lick, then I have to put it back on her. Actually I just tried it and she freaked out, not when I was trying it on her (she's such a good girl considering what she's been through), but when she tried to walk around with it, she kept on hitting into different furniture. The only reason I had to put it on her is because I caught her licking the open wound and I needed to step out of the room to take a shower. I don't know how much of the licking will affect the healing process, but if I had a choice I wouldn't put it on her. I also need to attend to her sister too, and there's only one of me... I'm worried she'll get stuck under places, like the coffee table she kept on trying to get under. It's a very low coffee table. She's not taking it well, I think it reminds her of the the Vet's holding cells. I wish she was as good with it as Sadie. It doesn't seem like she can lift her head with the collar. Since she had it off for 2 days now, she's probably not understanding why I needed to put the e-collar on her. The tech at the vet's told me not to cut it (wish I could, love Project Runway...) because she'll get to the wound, just as a precaution. Maybe I should've asked for a soft collar.
Bumpy nearly escaped at the Vet's today! I almost freaked out and screamed so loud. She hates the noise that the door to her carrier makes or any metal clinking sound. The tech kind of knocked the carrier around when taking her out and she jumped off the examination table and ran into another room, hopped into a tiny cabinet with another tiny opening to another long cabinet... I almost cried thinking she'd be stuck in there. Finally the Doc came and grabbed her out. I was kind of upset at those people for scaring her and also it might have hurt her wound! My poor baby. I should get another kind of carrier to take her next time she goes for her suture removal appointment next Friday. Other than the excitement, the drain was taken out ok and Vet didn't seem too concerned with anything. To me, the wound seems too red, especially at where the openings are (where the drain was at). It looks like it could start bleeding out any moment. Or maybe I'm just too worried. Also Bumpy hasn't pooped yet. Vet says maybe she's holding it in because of the wound and pain. I hope she goes soon. Before this, she was very regular...she poops everyday. And now, it's been 3 days without. Btw, how will Bumpy go into the litter box with that thing around her neck? She can't even walk right.
