I don't know if this is the right thread or not but we're going to be going on a trip to my husband's mom's place for Christmas two weeks and it's going to be a long ride. We're planning on taking our kittens with us who are now about 8 months old.
So, any tips for traveling? Should we have the litter box in the back seat?
And food and water? We're going from Maryland to Ohio, that's a long way for kitties. Slim chance for a babysitter since we only know about 2 people in our apartment building and one of them has her hands full with a new baby.

My older cat is fine just staying in her carrier. She would sleep the whole way. She's fine for 4.5 hour drives without a litterbox. Your drive is much longer, so I would definitely have a box in the car. Also lots of paper towels! For food and water, try stopping around the time they are used to eating.

My kitten Chloe would rather bounce around the car and has used a litterbox in the car also. The car wasn't moving when she used it, but at least she did! It was just a shoebox filled with litter, but she fit in it because she was so tiny. I've tried keeping her in the carrier and she hates it. I know it's safer for her in the carrier but I want her to have access to her litterbox in the car. I'm taking her for a 4.5 hour drive over Thanksgiving and am going to put a tiny box in the front. (I'm the only person in the car).

I'm taking Jordan tomorrow on a 6 hour drive with me to Michigan & I've got a pet sitter comming for the other three (Jordan's been ill & requires lots of extra special care). She had a good suggestion & I can't believe I didn't think of it. Rescue Remedy. So on my lunch today I ran just up the road to the outpost & bought some rescue remedy for him (and I'm going to try resuce sleep for those nights I'm feeling especially nervous about his illness)

Thanks for the tips, Sakura! I really appreciate it! I think we'll have the small litter box in the backseat and their carrier cage open in case they feel better in there or not. I love your shoe box idea but I highly doubt big fat butt Tiger will be able to use it!
He's not fat, just fluffy.
And definitely lots of paper towels!

Last time we went, we stopped only about twice for gas and a quick walk but that was before the kitties. This will be interesting!

I only have one cat her name is fatcat and I have never traveled with her.
But how many cats do you think you can take traveling with you?
