I turn out the lights too. I might enjoy seeing the costumes and handing out candy to the little kids but I can't stand seeing older kids begging for free candy. Fortunately I live on a side street and not many kids come around anyway.

I don't mind so long as they have taken time to actually put on a costume! I remember several teens carrying around bags wearing their normal clothing and going door to door. I still gave them something, but I felt like telling them "No! Go home and put on a halloween costume and then come back!"

When I was 18 I dressed up and went out trick or treating with my cousin and his girl friend. My little nephew who was about 4 only managed to get to about 6 houses before he got bored and tired and gave up. His older brother and sister went out for blocks and blocks and I knew they wouldn't share with Ryan. Since we were already dressed up for a halloween ball, we took some time and went out on his behalf. Every house we went to were receptive to us having dressed up and were rather generous with their handouts. Riyan ended up with twice the haul that his brother and sister got!

Hide in the basement with the lights off!
Then eat all the candy for yourself
That's my method of dealing with Halloween if you don't like it.

I really dont get the point of Halloween, it was never popualr in Germany but each year its getting worse.

I went Trick o Treating once and that was when I was 13!!
I had a few people shut the door in our face telling us WE ARE NOT IN AMERICA, We are in AUSTRALIA!

I still generally get a kick out of Halloween, as far as watching the kids' getting dressed up and all: they can be so cute!
I still enjoy passing out the candy, too. But I always have to buy an extra bag, so I can have a few treats, too.

I don't know if we'll pass out candy this year or not.
My s/o's looney ex-wife has threatened to put a "hit" out on him, and I can imagine her dressing up for Halloween and pulling a gun out of her bag and shooting him.

I know that sounds a little far-fetched & paranoid, but trust me - she's not above something like that!
She's already hired someone to "do the job", but they guy backed out b/c she wouldn't pay him enough money. She also was busted about a month ago for setting up a meth lab in their old home. So....

I think we'll have to pretend we're not home this year, just to play it safe.

I ADORE halloween. And I do plan on going trick or treating and I am 20, but its because I am going with my best friend her boyfriend and his 9 year old stepbrother and I doubt I will even try to get any candy except at the mall.
I just wanna get dressed up and show off my dress!

Have any of you noticed a difference???
Yes, unfortunately, it isn't the same any more. It started getting really bad around the time I started taking my son out to trick-or-treat. He got so mad at me when I wouldn't take him any more b/c it was becoming too scary to (i.e., poisoned candy and such). I still took him to people's houses that I knew, and also family members, but not to any stranger's place. It's such a shame that there always has to be some
who ruins the kids' fun..

We don't do Halloween either.
We used to pass out candy in our old neighborhood, but we learned our lesson last year...first year in our new home.
We had two little kids and the rest were far to old to be dressing up and going around treat or treating.
The people that live two doors down went treat or treating...she's 21 and he's 24.
I just wanted to tell them to go out and get a job and buy their own candy and stop mooching off the rest of the neighborhood

We have four little kids and they've never gone door to door...they go to my In-laws and a few very close friends and that's it.

I made up treat bags for the two little boys across the street and took them over yesterday after that got off school...I told them we weren't going to turn on the porch light on Halloween and didn't want them to miss their treats.
Everyone I've talked to in the neighboorhood says the same thing, they're just not going to turn on the porch light...the Lady next door told me that last year she had a bunch of people all come together and she asked them who they were.
They told her their names and she said the last name didn't sound familiar to her.
They told her that was because they were from another town, the town they were from is 12 miles away

That would be the day I'd drive my kids 12 miles to get candy!

When I was a little kid the people who went treat or treating were little kids, not teenagers and people in their twenties and my Grandparents sure didn't pile us in the car and make a "Halloween Roadtrip" to all the surrounding towns.

We haven't had any trick or treaters for several years so I'm not going to wait around for any either!!

I don't buy any candy because I will eat it.

Living out in the country has some benefits!!

I have to work.
That means hordes to stupid kids, punk teens, & bawling babies begging for candy. I work in the mall....thank god I'm back in the "naughty" corner!

I am NOT looking forward to it....

No one does it around here, it's a dying tradition mainly because it's an American thing. And kids don't do it in May because they don't know the meaning of Samhain, only us witchies do..but there's no candy or pumpkins

I don't think so...there are a lot of TCSers that are parents. I am - I raised a daughter, she's 23 now.

However, as society has changed and parents stopped being able to discipline their children as they see fit, well, in MY opinion, MOST kids today are little brats, and I personally can't stand them. They need to be taught respect and consideration and boundaries.

But that's a whole other thread in IMO that has already been argued over.

Your quads are very cute, and I am sure you are a good parent. But please don't come down on me for hating Halloween - you would too, if it brought 100,000 drunken strangers to YOUR neighborhood.
