For the last couple of months, my cat has been experiencing some sort of discomfort near her tail. (She is an 11 year old tabby.) We brush and pet her all the time, but when we touch, even lightly, the right side of her hind end, just beside and near the base of her tail, she winces and cries. There is no matting of fur, and no visible injury, except we can brush a certain amount of scabby, crusty material out of her fur from that location. This is not pleasant at all for her, but after it is done, the sensitivity seems to go away for a couple of days. However, it always returns. As I said, this has only been occuring for the last 2 months. I know that cats have various glands back there, but nothing seems swollen. Does anyone have an idea of what it might be?

Has she seen a vet???

If no she needs to

she may have something wrong like arthitis or internal organ problems... If her last senior panel was over six months ago time for a new one

I agree, it is a good idea to see the vet. That area can become a problem with age-related conditions like sharky says.
