There may be something to that. There's also a flip side to that coin. I couldn't begin to count the number of times that someone has posted on sites where I mod asking about something (normally when the tank is way overstocked with fish that are already too big and wanting to add more) then they throw a tantrum because they were told what they needed to hear and not what they wanted to hear.

Ok, I discovered another one!!! Ok, two!!!

Websites that have music or some other annoying sound with no button to turn it off, thus making me have to mute my sound!

People who sign up for my website's newsletter and have one of those spam blockers that send out a response telling me that my message is in holding and giving me a form to fill out asking permission to have my &*$&#^ email delivered to them! They wanted the newsletter and signed up for it. I have no control over accepting or adding anyone to my newsletter account. The person signs up, acknowledges an automated email sent to their account, and then are automatically accepted in. So why do I have to fill out a stupid form so that it bypasses their spam filter?!!

Also not leaving in any location information very easily leads to my pet peeve. Which is people not taking into account the fact that people on the internet come from lots of different countries and cultures. To be honest it's usually americans assuming that everyone else is an american (far from all though!) for example I've seen black english and/or french people be called "african-american" a few times. Specifically relating to cats though I think it's most obivous in the declawing and then indoor vs. outdoor cat debates.

Anyway if there's no location information it takes more time to figure out where the poster is coming from and it's easier to have cultural misunderstandings.

Exactly! Thank You!

I was born in Iowa, and grew up in Iowa and Minnesota. When I see someone on here from either of those places... i like to talk to them. It's a good conversation starter. If the person leaves that out of their location...we never talk unless I somehow find out where they are from...

It would be like you wanting to know if someone was from Scotland right? (Which by the way my father's family comes from Scotland, and my mom's comes from Norway!)

Alright, I'll go change my location to Iowa. I had no idea that bothered people.

Bikini Bottom was a reference to my Spongebob Squarepants obsession.

You could list your location as Bikini Bottom, Iowa
I admit, I always wondered if you really lived in a place with that name or if it was a SBSP thing

Many people have made the points that I was going to make.

A few I will add though:

In opinion forums, not just here, it truely annoys me when someone takes one tiny little thing of the argument and blows it up and essentially hijacks the thread because they're being anal. I know I've been guilty and have got caught up in that. However when the topic is about A and I use B, C, and D to validate my argument, don't nitpick because I might have confused the street names or something stupid like that.
I'm not talking about correcting either...that's perfectly fine. I'm talking about the people that say "You argument is invalid because you confused the street names. They're actually X and Z, not C and D." Ummm...if you go back and look at the big picture I'm trying to create that small little detail is pointless to disqualify my argument.

Secondly threads that are the same question 5 posts later. I see this in a lot of forums. One OP asks a question like "Who's our President?" then after that question has been answered for a couple days, someone else comes in with the same question. SEARCH FIRST!!!!

Finally people at work that truely think that they're playtime on the internet falls under my job description. No I will not support your iTunes or the thousands of freeware you download on a daily basis.

OK I digress...

I just want to let you know that this had nothing against you. It's in general... not just people from Iowa that I'm mad at LOL. It's all over... if someone talks about the weather where they live... I would like to know where they live! So, just letting you know.. I wasn't mad at you

I may be blonde here... but can you explain this a little better. Please.

Are you mad at the people ON the internet (not in real life) that are at work and on the internet. (I just confused myself)

or

People that you work with that are always on the internet?

Because, actually, the only time I ever go on TCS is when I'm at work. So, I don't really see a problem going on the internet while at work... as long as the work gets done! But... to everyone their own opinion!

Oh sorry - it probably helps to say that I'm a System Admin (IT person for short
)When I first began some of the people I worked with would gamble online and go on eBay to bid, etc. They do all sorts of personal things. This also includes the email filter (we have one that quarantines a lot of emails that could be spam or legit email). I would get told they were expecting an important email from their son and all it would really turn out to be is a forwarded joke.

Anyhoo, as my job function I sort of get annoyed towards those question (i.e "Can you to walk me through on how to bid on eBay") that aren'ts work related. I don't really care how much people surf...just don't call me because you're having problems downloading from iTunes.

LOL! Ok, so that clears it up a bit for me. I understand now. I'd give everyone a list of rules...

Rule #1 Don't ask me to help you do anything- unless it is work related.

Rule #2 Refer to #1 at all times

Most of my pet peeves have been covered, particularly spam email

On forums pet peeves are 1)Lack of paragraphs in posts - if it's just one long block of text I just skip those posts

2)Trolls - I was on a forum that was totally ruined by a persistant troll who constantly registered in new names and would respond to his own posts and create whole threads that looked like members were arguing with each other when it was actually all one person. Eventually about 2/3 of the forum left and went elsewhere. Unfortunately it was a forum that just didnt' have the ability or time to moderate it in the way that was needed.

That would be my third pet peeve. I've seen it a lot and invariably those who do it are drama queens who just want attention and for everyone to rally around and beg them not to leave. If they want to leave there's no need to make a song and dance about it, just leave or drift away gradually. If there are particular members they want to inform that they're leaving they can pm them. They can also pm admin and mods about the reason for leaving if necessary. No need to create bad feeling on the forum.

Over the river and through the woods...
I think most of mine have been covered too.

As for location, that isn't a pet peeve, but it would be nice to know at least what country, region, area, hemisphere the poster is in. But, if people don't want to share that, it's fine.

I'm guilty of the grammer, punctuation thing...not the mention the spelling thing! I do use "!" and "," and "...." entirely too much. I have a degree in english and have always been confused on where to put commas. Sad, really. And spelling...I'm just terrible at it. I'm also terrible at proof reading. So I appologize if I ever made anyone want to strangle me!

My main peeve on forums is the cliques. Not really here. I know there are people here that are friends in r/l or close online friends but I've never felt left out here. But, I've been on other forum where either my posts are completely ignored or I was basically told "who asked for your opinion". Well, you did when you started the thread! I've also been on forum where no matter what the thread was about, a group of people would come in and hijack it and start their own conversation completely unrelated to the topic.

I am so glad this is such a friendly forum!

hehehe thats a big one. I used to (key is used to) have PeoplePC and they did the same thing every 4 hours. Without fail. Something about their policy to kick you off after 4 hours so you have to relog in or whatever. Pain in the butt was what it was.

I also hate when people make those posts about I am leaving this site because yada yada yada blah blah blah. Its all attention seeking things, they want people to beg them to stay IMO. I mean I have made a post that said I am taking a break if you need me email me I'll be back in a few days. But never a I am leaving thread.

I forgot about flashing avatars. They drive me nuts too. It looks cool and all but they really hurt my eyes.
