hi everyone, i'm hoping someone has gone through this before and can help me feel better?
my 6 month old kitten (tinky) was just recently spayed, and everything went well. she rarely picked at her stitches so she didn't even have to wear a cone. she healed perfectly too...
but then we took her to the vet just to snip off her stitches and the vet assistant noticed a lump right on or near the incision site.
the lump is about the size of a marble and feels pretty hard, but kinda moves around. it doesnt hurt her at all and her behavior is totally normal. the vet assistant said that this happens to like three quarters of all kittens who get spayed. she only told us to wait and see, she said it would go away and that we should only get her checked out if the lump starts to get bigger.
although it's nice to hear that it's "normal", i'm still a bit worried. isnt there a possibility that it can turn into something more serious?
if anyone has had this same problem maybe you can tell me what happened in your kitten's case. thanks a lot

Ginger had it, it was just scar tissue from the flap of skin that was stiched in the incision. It was gradually absorbed by her body and went away with time. Nothing to worry about.

yup, it's normal. i've never had one turn into anything. just watch it - if it starts to hurt her, seep gunk, feel notter than the surrounding skin, then worry & take her in. all of mine had it, no problems.

My Maggie had a large bump during the healing process, it was the length of her stiches and about 1/2 an inch high. I freaked when I saw it and called the vet. The vet said it was probably a reaction to the stitches and it would go away after the internal stitches were absorbed. With her it actually went away right after they removed her stiches. I too had wished someone had mentioned this possibility to me.

This is a common thing to see. Just keep an eye on it and make sure it does not get any bigger. If it seems to be getting bigger take the cat back to the vet. My kitten Starbuck was spayed in May and she got a small infection once the stitches were removed. I brought her back to the vet when the lump got bigger they drained some fluid out of it and put Starbuck on an antibiotic. The infection went away within a week and the lump did too. Starbuck never acted like she was in pain and was still her normal playful self through out the whole process.

This worries me! I have had numerous cats spayed over the years and this is the first time I have ever seen a lump like this before! Previous cats only had a little swelling at the incision site (external stitiches). The area looks okay with the exception of an oblong quarter sized lump that sticks out about 3/4 inch from her abdomen. It has been over a week now since the procedure and she growls any time you try to touch it. I'm not so sure I like this type of stitches, especially if it causes a reaction!
