Are you keeping mumcat inside-only at the moment? Just asking because she could have mated and become pregnant again just a few days after giving birth.

From the dinnertime photo (which seems to be the best in color of all of them) you have TWO BROWN TABBIES - one is a mackeral, one is a classic (no blue/grey tabby). A white like mom and a black/white.

Without knowing the white mom's parent's color, she's probably carrying only the black or brown tabby gene - no reds are in the litter, so she's not a calico.

The father is probably a brown tabby.

White paints over the cat's normal color genes.

In either case one parent is a brown mackeral tabby, the other is a classic tabby.

Thanx 4 the complements (4 the kittens 2 lol kumbulu!) Ive had them for over 8 weeks at home now and one is definately grey tabby...the best photo for colour is the close up of him under the table. He has a haze of brown over his nose and thats it. The rest of his coat is black ticked through with white and some hazes of grey fur around his head...hes silverish all down his flanks legs and belly. black on top. quite unusual and v pretty. The other is a classic brown tabby.

I think Layla may carry grey because as u mentioned white is a gene that 'masks' colour, but in some white cats some colour still shows normally on the head. and layla has a grey line on top of her head...so maybe this explains the youngster?

She has been kept indoors however she has escaped through windows a few times....so i will have 2 check if she is preggers again b4 the spay. And Tasha i would love 2 keep them longer, but they r starting 2 do damage 2 the house now so im afraid theyre gonna b gone within a week! Im sure they'll be fine, theyre all off 2 good homes. I will update with a few more pics b4 they go!

Cute babies! I looooove all of the colors! And it is possible she mated with more than one male, but you can't be sure. Just be happy she and the babies are safe and healthy and that she's going to be spayed and will never have to worry about mothering again! She can go back to being the spoiled baby!

And best of luck with that spay. Thank you for being a responsible pet owner and getting her spayed. Are you also having the kittens done? They look like they're big enough, but I know some vets don't like doing pediatrics for some inane reason
If you want to get them done before they go to their new homes (and it makes everything a lot easier if you do!) I can help you look for a low-cost clinic, as they will generally do pediatrics (and they're low cost!)

here in the UK iv not come across a vet who will do it less then 5 1/2 months of age. normally the kittens have to be 6 months old. even though iv had a female go into heat at only 5 months old so they did spay her then but only because she went into heat. even if they changed it to 4 months old here in the uk it would be much better.

what are you going to do if she is pregnant again? so soon after her first litter can cause problems, the kittens might be weeker the mum may not have enough milk to feed them , its really not good for her health, or the kittens health.
fingers crossed she isnt pregnant again

Sully,

Please take some more picture of the "grey" one - I still say its not a blue tabby - its brown. Browns can have shadings that may look greyish.

These are blue tabbies:

These are various shades of brown tabbies (some with a greyish cast)

Just another thought with brown tabbies - you have what is known as "cold" and "warm" brown tabbies. The cold color is more of a greyish undercoat with the brown/black markings - more black then brown. The warm color is a red-brown undertone with brown markings.

I think you have one of the "cold" browns which looks like a grey (blue) tabby.

Thanx tasha i was gonna say, ive worked in uk vets in the past, and paedeatric neutering is generally not the done thing over here unfortunately.

I have flead and wormed them all ready for their new homes, so all they will need is vaccinations and neutering. If she is pregnant, ill have 2 have a vets opinion on what will b best, purely because i have mixed feelings about abortion as i have witnessed the op being carried out and seen pickled kittens in jars of formaldehyde! its just not nice...but may have 2 b done unfortunately.

Thanx 4 the pics goldenkitty. i understand what u mean about 'cold' brown tabbies. But its just that in comparison to his brother, he doesn't have any brown/peachy undertones like the other 1 does. He just appears very much a grey colour when u look at him. I will try post some more pics soon.
