If the codes don't match, they should be OK. You can try calling Nutro to double check, but I imagine their phones are quite busy.

Its funny that the week I decide I want to try my girls on some new food this recall happens!! I was in Petsmart and Nutro Pouches were on sale so I decided to try those instead of my normal cans. Of course I bought the food on the recall. I think I've only fed them 1 pouch. The other ones will be trashed today!

But Science Diet is...per the info on the Petsmart link to foods voluntarily recalled, there is a list of Science Diet foods with the bar codes, for cats..the Savory Cuts, including two for kittens, and two for mature adults. Just go to petsmart.com, click on their link to info on those foods they carry that are voluntarily recalled.

Two weeks ago, they both became very sick and spent a week in the ICU at a great animal hospital in the Chicagoland area. Our vet said it was acute kidney failure brought on by a toxin. We have spent the last two weeks desparately searching for the cause... even hiring an industrial hygenist to test various things in our house. No luck until our vet called us with last night's news. BE VERY CAUTIOUS... we have talked directly with Nutro and they do not know for sure what is causing these issues in their food. They also don't appear to be confident in the dates and codes of the affected pouches.
We have over 75 pouches that appear to be outside the affected range but we plan to keep them to have some tested. We have no idea how long it took for the affected pouches to do their damage to our cats. If you feed your cats these products, I suggest you stop and keep all leftover bags in case your cats do get sick. Our boys are still fighting to recover while we treat them at home. However, we have incurred some extremely large bills thus far and these companies need to be held accountable. We will be seeking legal advice today. If anyone else on this forum has experienced anything similar, please post.
It's awful..someone just joined the crf list I am on with a 6 y.o. ill cat, who they have realized was fed some of the recalled food.

The one theory I've heard is that wheat gluten -used as source of protein - is possibly the problem.

melbo, thanks so much for your post. Thankfully, Harvey and Forest don't eat any of the effected foods, but Tailer gets Nutro pouches at night. I have some of the pouches, but the "best by" dates are outside the dates posted on their site. I was debating whether to go ahead and use them, or to hold off as a precaution. After reading your post, I'm going to hold off and switch him to another brand for now.

I'm SO sorry about your boys!!! I sincerely hope they are able to recover. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted on how they're doing.

I've heard the wheat gluten theory too:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17650075/

So maybe it's a good idea to only feed canned food that doesn't have wheat gluten for now? Thankfully my cats are on California Natural wet/dry, although I was planning on starting the switch to Nutro Natural for the dry this weekend. Thankfully the dry doesn't seem to be affected yet...

Makes you wonder if the food has been sabotaged. Unfortunately, there are people who hate dogs and cats for whatever reason

Mine eat Nurtro Natural Pouches. And what they have been eating is on the recall list. What am I supposed to do with the food I have not feed them yet and the cats? Do cats need to be investigated for something? As they are Persians, they are already prone to kidney problems just because they are Persians, as far as I understand it.

Please read through the whole thread...
you will see how scared and confused we all are about this.

Most stores will take the food back and give you a refund then return the food to the manufacturer.
But our kitties health is of real concern.
I really hope that your sweeties are OK.

Well, the two cats are crying, looking at me with their sad eyes, and begging me for their food, which I can't give them because it's been recalled.
I have no idea what to feed them now because all they eat is cuts in gravy.

They mentioned Kroger brand in that original link (the Yahoo one), but didn't have it on the menu foods list, unless Kroger sells its food under more names than Pet Pride (which is entirely possible - PP is the only one I'm concerned about). I rarely give Maisey wet food, and haven't lately, but my parents feed their cats Pet Pride wet sometimes, though I think they've been primarily feeding 9 Lives wet lately. I checked with them and they said the cats should be safe, since they've only been feeding 9 Lives for a couple weeks. I'll keep checking the list though.

I have all the cats and dogs that ingested the tainted food in my thoughts and prayers.

I would like to thank everyone for getting this information to as many pet parents as possible as quick as possible. My heart is breaking for anyone whose beloved pets passed on or is sick from this tragedy.

I always had a feeling Iams and euk, were bad ever sense I've became more wary and infomed of pet food. Its so easy to find the right food for your cat or dog( provided he/she dont have health issues), just study the teeth structure and go by what nature designed the animal for, meat, either raw or foods brought at www.Naturapet.com. Humans have flat molar teeth and tiny canines so we do better off with grains, fruits, a little meat and veggies, to put on our diet standards for dogs and cats as far as what's good for us is cruel in my opinion. http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...lies/agree.gif

The trouble is most people dont have the money for things like this.http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...lies/frown.gif

Dogs and cats have very differnt diet needs then people do. I dont know much about dogs but to me its silly to feed them veggies I think it just goes in one end and right out the other.http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...s/rolleyes.gif.

How would the company know if one ingredient they are using is bad?
Sounds like nobody is still even sure what exactly caused these pets to get sick and die.
And I fed my cats the recalled food every day and they do not show any ill effects so far-so I am not sure if some small portion of food was affected, or what.
