Thanks Guys! It does feel great to wear fashionable clothes once again. You know, everything I read about womens fashions they say that the average size is 14 to 16. Then why are the size 16's usually look so crappy at certain places? Just seems odd to me. All the really cute outfits are size small or size 5.

Thanks again!

Lane Bryant has some cute trendy clothes everytime I've walked past their window. Last year, I used to go their to buy some jeans, because the 16's fit better than the ones at all of the other stores. Now, I dont have to go their anymore. I dont know about you, but to me, even the 16's, for example, at Target are getting narrower and narrower! I bought a pair of Mossimo dress pants in a 16, and I havent been able to wear those ever. I was at my dr a few weeks ago, and I weighed 178, and a few weeks before that I weighed 183.

Well, I just got a compliment the other day that was kind of nice. My sister's (the one that just had a baby) mother in law told me that I had lost weight! I couldn't believe it! Now if only I could believe it, and actually fit into my jeans, it would be great! I don't wear my jeans very much, b/c I can't wear them at work, and I don't go out very much, so I just don't. And the sad thing is, they are like brand new! I only got them last year for when I went east for my trip, and have hardly worn them since! I so have to exercise more! I'm gonna try this week! And I am drinking lots of water....it seems like lots to me anyways. I always drink water in the car on my way home from work, b/c then I can actually go to the bathroom when I need to. lol. So my goal (another one!) is to tone up, and then lose weight. I have this craving for wonderfully strong legs, and upper arms that don't jiggle lots! lol (how funny is that???
) So that's what I'm gonna do!

Hi everyone.

I just joined this thread. I have to say, I'm quite impressed with the success of all of you. Way to go!

I've seen several diets mentioned (Weight Watchers, the Atkins diet etc.) and was wondering if anyone here has gone the vegetarian route? Last year, post-holidays, I gained a fairly significant amount of weight. I've been between a 12-14 since I was about 15 (which isn't terrible - I'm 5'11) but I went up to a size 18! I decided I had to do something so I went vegetarian - for a little while. I found I wasn't well-versed in vegetarian ways and chose to just eat chicken and fish since I always hated beef and pork anyways.

Recently, I've gone back to full vegetarianism and I have to say, in the past few weeks it's already made a difference. I shop at an organic grocery now and though it's slightly more expensive than a regular grocery store, there is a rather large selection of foods (including microwaveable stuff which I basically live on) and it has a ton less fat/carbs than most meals. The fact that it's organic accounts for a lot too since you don't have to worry about ingesting the remnants of pesticides.

BTW, in the past year of my diet change I'm back down to a size 12 and still losing as time goes on (this is without exercise actually...) Water, as you all know, is extremely important. It's a diuretic and has no calories so there's really no losing there. I still drink an occasional coke but I drink the ones from the organic store because the tabs on the cans, when sent back to the manufacturers, are used to donate money to the SPCA and Humane Societies. For anyone interested, it's Blue Sky Cola <www.blueskysoda.com>.

Anyhow, just curious if there are any vegans/vegetarians around.

Keep up with the good work everyone!

Oh Shell, I have seen the cute outfits in every size. It's just that many of the women wearing them really don't have any business doing so. One of the women at my WW meeting has set her new goal as being able to go to her workout in one of those little Spandex outfits.....and to look good wearing it!

Miss Atoms:

God bless you for being a vegetarian. I could never give up my meat. And I am with you all the way on the water issue. It is said that drinking a lot of it is the single greatest contributor to weight loss. Other than my one cup of coffee in the morning, I drink nothing but water, and have felt all kinds of health benefits from it. I no longer retain water....and I used to get swollen ankles and the like from being on my feet. Many people where I work out complain that they couldn't drink all that water everyday. I was one of those people, too. You can do anything you set your mind to.

Everyone is doing a fantastic job. I am slowly doing ok, but I have just started. My big thing is getting my hubby on board. He went grocery shopping and bought things like cheesies and apple pie. I told him that I hope he can eat it all by himself!

Kim - I am currently a size 22 and you are my new role model! I will be happy if I can get down to a size 18!

I'm vegetarian, and have been for almost 14 years. LOL, sorry to say there are definitely ways to gain weight without meat. I'm currently 8-10 sizes larger than I would like to be and the babies are getting to be a bad excuse, the twins are a year old now!

I ate vegetarian for about a year, but my family does not want to eat that way and it got too difficult to try to shop and cook both ways. The thing I like most about Atkins is that it has gotten me off of the junk food - I'm still eating a lot of veggies, and probably not much more meat than I used to. The limits on fruit is probably the biggest challenge for me right now, but I can eat some, and will be able to eat more once I reach my goal.

Adymarie, I agree that everyone is doing a fantastic job!

MissAtoms, have you tried the Amy's frozen dinners? Vegetarian and organic, and very good. There are also some really good ones called 'Twist & Sprout' that I was eating before starting Atkins. They had a website but I can't get to it now, so I wonder if they're still around?

Hey guys, I started following the eating plan for the 6 week body makeover and I've lost about 15 pounds the first month. I know about 5 of that is water weight, but what the hey!

Miss Atoms, my sister does the same program, only vegan.

I also get at least 30 minutes cardio daily, do some sun salutations (yoga), and I've just started a muscle building routine.

My biggest thing is OA (Overeaters Anonymous). I just got my 30 day token and am very happy.

OMG, Amy's frozen dinners are what keep me alive. They are SO good! I particularly like the vegetarian hot pockets - I was always looking for something like that with the regular hot pockets but they almost always had beef or pork in them. There was a turkey/broccoli/cheese one I'd get occasionally but my options were pretty limited. There is still a website for her foods. The URL is http://www.amys.com/. The food is delicious! My favorite is the spinach & feta pocket. Mmmmm..

Congratulations to everyone for moving towards their weight loss goals! I am once again working on getting thin. I am still annoyed with myself for letting the pounds come back. Oh well, I lost 5.6 pounds this week, my first back at Weight Watchers. Only 30 more to go . . . I really think joining with several of my co-workers is going to keep me on track all the way to the end.

Way 2 Go Bren!

That's great! How did ya lose 5 pounds in one week? I wish I could find a way to sleep off the weight...that'd be too easy, huh?

Congrats Bren & everyone else on their accomplishments! I think it's time for a party! I'll bring the water! LOL!

I just wanted to post and tell you all you are doing so wonderfully!! Shell, you must be sooo excited! I bet you look great.

And Deb, I'm sure you are just rolling on WW. Its a great program, huh?

You know, the one thing that I can't get past ( I lost 35 lbs on WW almost 2 years ago) is that no matter how thin I am I still feel chubby. When I started WW I was 177, and I felt huge. I was wearing a tight 14 and I was miserable. Now I'm 148 and wearing a 10/12 and still feel huge. Its a mental thing for me. I think I need counceling or something!

I still struggle every day to make the right food choices. I've cut down on my carbs, which helps me maintain. But I still have bad days, and I don't get all my water in that I should.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. I was reading thru this thread and thought you all are doing super! Congratulations on being such "BIG LOSERS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to the BIG losers!
I lost 7 pounds last week so that was good for me. I am feeling alot more fitter, have better endurance, my muscles are feeling firmer, I don't feel sore after playing sports, and I have learned a lot of things from my personal trainer - the sooner you sweat while working out, means the more fitter you are. Interesting.

Daniela - I would be worried if I was thin and still thought I was fat - anorexics often see themselves that way. I do hope you are taking good care of yourself. Does anyone tell you how good you look? I hope so!

Once again, congrats!

I have the same problem. i knew i was in trouble the day i held up a pair of size 10 jeans and thought they looked gargantuan. how could my mind think that a 10 was huge? intellectually i knew they must not be big, but since i felt big, they looked big. it's amazing how you could look at a pair of jeans that seemed like they would fit a child, and then once you get to the size to fit in them they look huge.

Kellye, I can say at least for myself, I have gotten nothing but major support and compliments from those in my life. i have gone to work functions and had to reintroduce myself to people because they didn't recognize me after losing 90lbs.

for myself, I don't think it's a sign of anorexia, just a sad side effect of living in a image driven society, where the smaller you are is directly linked to your desirability.

I also think exercise is key to feeling fit and strong. that is where i'm lacking, and i think if i could get myself motivated and into it, that would be a huge step towards feeling so ungainly.

Daniela, I think that's actually a very common problem with women who lose weight after being and feeling overweight. My good friend has the same issue. She's lost over 100 pounds on Atkins over the last year, and is still losing, but when she looks in the mirror she said she still "sees" the very overweight woman she used to be. She's said that if she could figure out how to lose the weight in her mind that she's lost from her body, she's write a book and be a millionaire!
