Do cats spray all year round?

I live in apartments and for the past week we have had rain. Some stray cat or house cat that probably isn't fixed, has been spraying. I very much dislike going outside and smelling it on our cars or doors. Most of these tenants don't even have cats in their homes to attract outside cats.

I am wondering - do cats have particular seasons where they tend to spray more? This hadn't happened for months and now it seems to happen every day! I've been using Nature's Miracle but sometimes can't locate exactly where the cat has sprayed. I'm just wondering.....Thanks.

Spraying is the way cats mark their territory. You probably have 1 or 2 stray newcomers in the area.

Also, dampness can "renew" old scents left behind long ago...

Yes, they spray year round...although with spring approaching I could see it increasing a bit maybe, because it's 'mating' season. I agree that dampness could bring the smell out more too.

I use vinegar and water in a spray bottle (50/50 mix)...it's a lot cheaper for 'refreshing' places like outside doors.

They probably do, just more heavily in from about February thru the summer and early fall. Most females are not in heat during late fall/winter so the males would slack off.

Willing to be there's a close by UNspayed female that is attracting the males.

I like the water and vinegar idea for outside areas...you're right, much cheaper! Thank you everyone, I never thought of the dampness bringing back old smells, too! I'm sure that is happening.
