I soooo need to vent about my self cleaning litter box!!!

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3635188

I bought this thing hoping it would work out for us...

But it's not what I thought it would be...

The problem is this:

My girls don't have the put together poop most of the time it's pretty wet, and so it sticks, and it sticks to those forks all the time..

There isn't a cover, so they throw it everywhere.

the poop container fills up way to quick and when you take it out,, the poop flicks up at you.. Several times hitting my lips,, thank god it didn't get in my mouth.. gross

I spend more time cleaning this box then I did cleaning their litter boxes by hand..

Uggghhh, isn't there a better thing for self cleaning litter boxes????

I'm glad I have the ordinary box you scoop yourself. I've seen the self-scooping ones many times at yard sales....lol

well, i really like mine... i have 3 littermaids, & replace with the same whenever one goes out on me [has only happened once]. i have 4 cats & work all day - i love coming home & NOT smelling the box! i line the collector with 4-gallon trash bags, which helps when emptying time comes. the last box i bought came with a scooper that had tines on the end that fit exactly between the rake tines - much easier to clean the rake, now. prior to that i used the handle of a broken toothbrush. i have a 'corner pee-er' so get clumps stuck in the rake, but i still prefer it to the manual scooping. you might consider putting the whole thing inside a large rubbermaid tub. that would help the mess the cats make when digging. check out this thread for how to creat a litterbox from a rubbermaid tub. just add another hole for the cord, & it would work for the automated one, too.

We actully were talking about getting at least one self cleaning box just to try it out.
After reading this thread I think we'll just keep hand scooping.

I've heard nothing but troubles with them too.
I'm just going to stick to our Rubbermaid Totes
Those work wonders!

Some people swear by the self cleaning ones and others I've heard have no use for them. Sounds like maybe it's just not the right litter box for your babies?
