It will be hard to tell his true personality until he is fixed but I think he will be okay he has gentle eyes. He appears to have some terrier in him. And rat terriers have four different size catagories. I think although he is alot bigger than her his head shape favors my girl a bit. The double decker rat terriers can get up into the 30lb range. Here's a pic of her and tell me if you agree.

I think he definately looks part terrier. I think he is a Basset Hound Terrier.. Tavia, your little rat terrier is a cutie. My sister has Sam rat Terrier for years. I grew up with a terrier named Cricket.. She lived 17 years. They are smart as a whip.....

Here's some today's pics. I took him outside with Emma. I kept Charlie on a leash just for quick access to him in case. They did great. I finally took his leash off and he was submissive to her. But they ran and played. I threw Emma's ball and Charlie has no idea how to chase a ball. I can tell he has never had anyone play with him before...

Juan kept him on the leash for a bit in the house so he coul meet the other dogs and he did fine. I held a cat in my lap while he was on the leash as his first test.. He ignored the cat and just smiled.

At first in the house, he was a little nervous on the leash. He is not leash trained. This 4 pictures are of order that I took them. He was very leary at first of my husband calling him to be petted with a leash on. But as you can see he relaxed by the time the 4th picture was taken. He has evidently been treated poorly in addition to being dumped.

And he craves water.. In the second picture, he is doing that thing he does with his teeth. He is not growling but it looks like he is grinning. It is a nervous thing... He needs loving.

He just wasn't sure at first but he did fine.. Who knows what Charlie's future holds for him..

He needs to be fixed........

And he might not be as old as I originally thought. He has a puppy/young dog look about him. And his testicles are not huge like they are fully developed.

We are starting to really like him. I looked at his tail also. It has not been docked. He was born this way.

Charlie's is absolutely adorable, Jenn. What kind of cruel, ignorant person could dump a sweetie (or any animal) like that?

Sounds like he's getting a lot of love from you and Juan and may already be where's he meant to be.

We will see what transpires in charlie's life. it's still too early to tell. His attitude with cats is the HUGE deciding factor.

The dogs all get along............

They are getting to know each other. Charlie has even got Molly running and this is a hard thing to do. But all three are racing around the yard. I supervise to make sure all goes well...

They are all doing the sniffing thing......... I think the dogs will be fine. He is also doing better getting in his crate.....since he has already learned we let him out.. We can't leave the dogs out for 30 minutes or so.... It is in the low 20's here. The cold air has them feeling frisky... It will take them a few day to totally relax..

Bless your heart for bringing him home.

He's having such a good time running and playing with the other dogs.
I'm not a dog person, but he sure is a cute little guy.

People just make me so mad, how on earth could anyone just dump an animal?
It just breaks my heart to think that the poor little guy was sitting there waiting for the idiots that dumped him to come back for him.
I will never understand that as long as I live...kind of makes you wonder if they have kids, how the kids are treated.

I always remember my Grandmother used to say that if you ever meet a person and they say they don't like animals or you find out they are cruel to animals then you don't want to be around that person because they have no heart.

I absolutely agree... Anyone who is cruel to animals ain't worth a hoot... Your grandmother is a wise woman...

Here's the full version of them running. They ran around the yard several times before they stopped.. My dogs smelled every tinkle spot that he has marked...

Molly did really well with him.. I am so glad. She does not share easily. She is the white dog. Emmy liked him instantly.

I have a great big yard so they can really stretch out and run full speed ahead.

Aww, they are having such a good time.
Makes you wonder if he was ever allowed to run and play like that, or if he was one of those poor dogs that spends it's life chained to a dog house.

What heartwarming, uplifting photos! And the whole story, too....I will watch this one unfold with a keen interest. Jenn, you are doing the most wonderful job with this poor dog - who looks like it's the first time in his short life that he's actually playing, being with other dogs, and being with people who care for him.

He must have a super sweet nature if he's already so good after the neglect and possibly abuse he's been through. Not many dogs would adjust so well. It's a great sign of things to come, and I believe wherever he ends up he will be one of those extremely special dogs that almost know that they've been saved, and so respond with that special kind of love and devotion and loyalty that comes with a rescued dog who remembers what it's like to be alone. You are a wonderful person for saving this sweet boy

I was kinda thinking the same thing. It sounds like you are getting attached to Charlie a little bit. I do hope he does well with the cats, I think Charlie is very very very lucky that you found him, and I think he is very very very lucky that is was someone who loves animals as much as you and your husband do.

Please keep us posted on how he does and what ya'll decide to do with him.

I wish I could give you a bunch of hugs in person, because you deserve them. So I will just send you some.

I agree with you totally, when I read this last night, it just made me so sad, I never will understand how someone could do that to an animal. I wish we could take someone like that, and put them out in the cold, stranded with no money and car, and no nothing, and see how that person would like it. You know tit for tat, I just wish I could do something like that. I could think of a lot of things I would want to do to that person.

You forgot to add, dumped out in the cold by the person they trusted most in the world, without any warning or explanation.

Yes, how I would like these people to get a taste of their own medicine

What sweet pictures! Look at those puppies! They are saying "New friend!!! Yay!!!"

My dog has a stocky body and short stubby legs kinda like that. He was a stray, so we don't know but most vets who have seen him have pegged him as part corgi welsh.

I have also considered he might be part Corgi... Expecially since he has absolutely no tail. There is one breed of Corgi's that are tailless. It's just hard to tell.

I just got home from work and just finished sitting in the floor with him for 30 minutes or so with him on a leash to watch the cats and him. He is scared of the big ones and curious about the little ones. He doesn't act agressive but when my two babies play [snoopy and tulip] they meow and act silly. He was very interested. I would have to watch him close.

The reason he is scared of the big ones is because Felix due to cold weather is in the house. Bless his heart, he knows this dog is different. He walked right up to him and swatted him good across the nose.. That's probably a good thing. I would much rather Charlie be timid around the cats.

Only time will tell. He is back in his crate now. Hubby had him out earlier on a leash in the house as well. He was off work today. So, he took care of Charlie all afternoon. Charlie, when I got him out when I got home he went straight to Juan. He really likes my husband. More than me. He has never been taught manners. But he listens. My other dogs are very obedient. So I am doing Charlie the way I taught them things. The leash is a handy tool. One quick jerk downward gets their attention and I say NO at the same time. He listens to me. He is smart I can tell. He wants to fit in and learn...

Tomorrow I am off work. I am going to teach him to sit.. All my dogs sit for snacks and Emma heels. They all know down.

Now....let me say something. The funniest thing in the world is Muffin the dauchaund sitting on command. Her butt goes down 2".....hehe... I have to watch close or I miss it.....
It is the funniest thing in the world but she is the first dauchaund I have seen sit on command...

Now I'm going. More tomorrow.

Thank you all for the lovely comments.

Well, charlie is smart......... He has learned how to sit for bacon. Took 5 mintues. He might not remember tomorrow but it will be reinforced by him watching the other dogs. They NEVER get any people food unless they perform and sit for us. so normally, when we eat in the LR, they come and sit in front of us......

Charlie has been on a leash with either me or my husband since we got up. He has even went to the restroom with me which brought the cats out. Charlie is doing fine with them so far....

He saw the kitchen for the first time today with all the wonderful smells in there. He is really surprising me at how quickly he is fitting in.

Him and Emmy have been rolling around in the floor in the living room mock showing their teeth. She is compensating for his size and being gentle. They have both went in the dog house and wrestled... Emma really enjoys a good lab romp and Charlie also likes to romp. Molly is not a romper room girl...

I am still not 100 percent of Molly. I keep a close eye on her in case she gets any ideas....

Charlie is starting to pull at my heart strings. Hubby still says we need to find Charlie a good home. I am nearly hoping he chooses ours.

I am charging the camera and will update with pictures this afternoon. We have a couple errands we need to run to town for this morning. Have to takd the new little truck by the insurance co so they can look at it and need to stop by by sons. We are loaning him the money for a car for our grandson's mother. She is a nice little woman and we want her to have reliable front wheel drive transportation as she carts our little ones around. She is going to be my little daughter n law in June.
We already love her.

I hope Charlie chooses your home too, it does sound like you are getting very fond of him. Regardless, I know if you don't keep him, you will find him a loving home.
