I'm sure this thread had been started before.... but humor me

I'm trying to find a mix of moist and dry foods that my newbies will like. They seem to like the purina pro plan (given to us by the humane society we adopted them from). I tried Nutro Kitten, but they didn't really like it.

For canned food, I think they'll eat whatever I put in front of them - lol. They love every kind I've given them.

So tell me what kind yours like!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Ours love everything. Dry food: Nutro Natural Choice for kittens is the favorite (not NutroMax) - but just closely nudges out Evolve and Wellness. All are pretty expensive and can't be found in the Supermarket. We feed the feral community we take care of IAMS (dry only), which can be purchased in the supermarket.

Wet Food - people on this site seem to think it's best not to change food, or if you do, to change it over a period of days by mixing the two together. Our cats apparently have hearty constitutions, and don't like eating the same manufacturer over and over. We feed them wet food as if it were a treat - a little bit at breakfast, and then a little bit at dinner. We leave the dry food out all day, and keep two brands here and put one type in each bowl. They decide what they feel like eating.

We wash all bowls and the water dish every night. That will help avoid problems.

Wet food - they pretty much love the gravy. They usually leave the rest of the wet food in the dish. I wish a cat food maker would make a can or pouch of just gravy.

Wet food: they love Whiskas pouches (cheap, not natural looking, with preservatives and by-products). But since Whiskas isn't so good for them (I think of it as eating pork rinds or something), we also feed them Science Diet - "XXX in gravy" or the Nutro Gourmet Classics. They love the Nutro Veal Pate, Seafood & Tomato Bisque, and California Chicken Supreme. We also feed them the IAMS kitten formula from time to time.

We were told to make sure we feed them the kitten growth formulas. That is all they get dry food-wise. Because they eat so little wet food, we don't worry about it too much; we just make sure they get some growth forumla (wet food) several times a week.

If you want to read more about the food and what other people feed their cats, feel free to use this link to another thread - in it are posts with great links to useful internet sites.

Mine didnt seem to care for Nutro dry either though they did like the canned version of it. They seem to really like Innova, Felidae and Solid Gold dry foods and are currently eating Innova. For canned food I split a small can between the 4 of them every other day of various brands including Active Life, Azmira, Petguard, Solid Gold, Wellness, Pinnacle, Natural Balance, Felidae, Innova, ect.

Thanks guys. Between what you've said what people in the other thread said, I agree with the natural cat food. Unfortunately, I cannot find it around here to try a can before I order a case to see if they like it. I'd hate to buy a case of food and then have them turn their noses up at me. (little devils)

Going to hit the pavement tonite and see what I can find (the only one I know I can get is Natural Balance).

If you have a natural food store in your area, they off carry things like Wellness, Felidae, etc. We have a few feed & grain stores here that carry the premium foods.

To answer your original question, I feed Tiri a mix of Royal Canin & Nutro Natural dry. For moist, I get Wellness, Felidae, Nutro NC and Old Mother Hubbard.

Have you tried using the "store locators" on their websites? I was shocked to find so much available here.

for wet food, I can't seem to find any natural foods in "kitten" formula. how important is that if I'm giving them kitten dry also?

Personally, I think they do fine. Tiri grew up on Nutro Natural Choice, Felidae, etc. and she is a healthy, shiny, well muscled cat. She'll be one next Friday.

My foster kittens are all doing great on the same Nutro NC, Felidae, etc and they are 10 weeks. They're active, their fur is shiny, and they seem to love the taste.
