My sister who lives in North Carolina is meeting me in Los Angeles on New Years Day. I'm going to drive down to meet her, and we'll be staying there until Thursday. She has tickets for us to go on the Price is Right show for Tuesday, but I'm not too sure what we should do with the rest of our time. Most of my experience in the LA area has been at Disney Land or at Seal Beach for my Navy Reserve Training so I could use a little help. The Price is Right is her idea, and the major theme of her trip which is a Birthday Present to herself!

I know we have a few forum members who live in LA, but advice from anyone is welcome! This is what I've been able to come up with so far. Especially something off the beaten path, or must do kind of things.

Monday: - Pick sis up at LAX at 1 pm,
- go to hotel (Courtyard by Marriott) unpack, unwind clean up
- 4 pm-ish go to Santa Monica Pier shopping, sightseeing, dinner
- Early to bed.

Tuesday: -Up at zero dark thirty to go line up for the Price is Right at
- 0500 All day at the Price is Right
- ? go to hotel unwind clean up change clothes etc.
- Depending on daylight left drive up to the dog park to see the
Hollywood sign (got this from the Frommers website)
- 7 pm Dinner at a celebrity owned Restaurant (I have a list of
possibilies)
- Early to bed

Wednesday: - 0800 Hollywood Walk of Fame and Grauman's Chinese Theatre
- 0930 Movie Stars' Homes Tour
- 1200 quick lunch in LA
- 1300 drive out to San Juan Capistrano (one of the few
places that I visited while doing my two weeks at Seal Beach)
- 1700 drive up to San Miguel Indian Casino for dinner and
gambling

Thursday: Breakfast, check out, drop sis off at 1030...then start the six hour drive home!

I'm not from the area so I don't have any suggestions as to what to do there. But have fun at the Price is Right! Maybe one of you will get to be on the show!

I'm from Los Angeles. There a hundreds of things you can do, here. How about Universal Studio's tour? That's a fun place to go, and you don't have to go all the way to Orange County do it. You could also take a walk down Hollywood Blvd, and see the Walk of Fame, as well as visit the Chinese Theatre, while at the Chinese Theatre, you can hook up with a Greyline bus tour and go through Beverly Hills and see the Stars homes. There's loads of night life here in Los Angeles, there's usually several concerts going on every night of the week, some in large venue's and stadiums as well as in clubs and smaller auditoriums. You can check out the Getty Museum or go up to Griffith Park and go to the new re-built Observatory. There is just so much you can do, right here in Los Angeles, you shouldn't find a lack of anything to do.

Oh, I just looked and you have a lot of my suggestions already listed.

Thanks ClaireBear! I hope they pick my sister...because I seriously suck at the show. I have been recording it and watching it and I get less than half of the stuff right. We are going to jump up and down and make complete fools of ourselves no matter what! I am really good at that...

Thanks Hope, I am going to look on line for information on your suggestions especially the Universal Studios tour, cuz I know my sister is hoping to see movie stars!

If you can do it, seeing that your schedule is tight, you might try to include riding to Metrolink to Union Station and catch the Surfliner to San Juan. You can also do a SPECTACULAR train ride to San Diego, catch a bus or the trolley (they serve the SD train stations, and Old Town is such fun - you can go to a French-quarter or Greek restaurant, stop for a drink in a Spanish pub, complete with guitarists and bullfighting on the TV, then move on to hear jazz, etc.) without the hussle and bustle of L.A. The train is relaxing;the coast scenery breathtaking; the people friendly and interesting.
Hope that you enjoy the Price is Right show
My daughter did TRL in NYC and she had a BLAST!!

Thank you catsknowme! If she were staying longer I would love to take her to San Diego...I was stationed there for a few years, and haven't been there in quite some time. The train ride to San Juan sounds like one that my hubby would love, so I will definitely put that on the list of long weekend trip ideas.

I have not advice, I just want to say that I am totally jealous that you are going to see The Price Is Right! If you meet Bob, give him a smooch for me and my Grandma!

Oh Yes San Diego if you have time, I used to live there and there's lots to see, Well you said you were stationed there so you know. My DH was stationed there for many years when he wasn't at Sea, he did over 20 in the Navy and was Stationed at Camp Pendleton the last few.

Well, we got in the audience but didn't get called on down! Sis chose to forgo all site seeing on Wednesday in order to go back to the Price is Right. We made the audience again, but no cigar! I did take her to Santa Monica to the Pier and the Third Street Promenade on New Years Day, and that was pretty much it. She left Thursday, and gave me a nasty cold that she was just starting to get when she arrived. My seven hour drive home was tough because I was sick and just wanted to pull over at a hospital.

The Price is Right was fun, but now I am going to have to convince Hubby to take the trip with me so we can actually do some of the things I had on the itenerary!
