I paid for the phone and for 300 minutes, it's only $30.00!!!
For a Tracfone, it's 250 minutes for $50.00

I got mine and Hubby's at Wal-Mart
This sounds like the best deal so far. I think I'll look into this one after the Holidays.

I didn't have one until my daughter got me the actual phone for Christmas last year. It's a Jump Mobile, prepaid phone. I buy a $35 bucket of 350 minutes and it's good for 2 1/2 months. All incoming calls are free and all text messages are free. So it's about $13/month. I never run out of minutes because I don't use any if people call me. Only when I call out. I love it!

Jump mobile isn't available everywhere yet. But they do have some availability in your State. The address is www.jumpmobile.com. The phones you can order online or get at Mavrick stations.

We don't like cell phones... we don't want to be available all the time. We don't even use our phone answering machine on our land line. If we don't pick up the phone, call back if it's important!

Cheers, from
SwampWitch

p.s. We also won't answer the phone during dinner.

I don't care much for cell phones either. But it's nice to have when driving. And I can call my out of state family for free on it. Other then that, I very rarely have it on even! Heck, I don't even answer my landline. It's very annoying to my grown daughters.

I don't.

I don't see a reason for cell phones other than to keep in a car in case of an emergency, but now cars come with 'on star'.

I figure if someone wants to get hold of me they can leave a message at my home on my answering machine and I'll call them back. I refuse to be a slave to a telephone.

Plus I think it's dangerous to talk on the phone while driving a car, and I find it deeply annoying when a phone rings in a movie theater or concert hall, or I'm sitting next to someone at a restaurant or on a bus and they are sitting there talking on the phone. Ridiculous!

I don't really like cell phone's either, but I do think it would be really nice to have one, in case of emergencies. I work late nights, and if I ever had a problem it would be nice to have a phone to call work, and call for help. Trying to find a pay phone in Los Angeles is very hard these days. They keep removing them. I also think they would be nice for long distance calling.

I too get extremely annoyed with people when I see them driving down the street on their cell. I even get annoyed when I see them walking down the street on their cell. I just went thru a situation this past week, where having a cell would have been wonderful, when there was an outage. I couldn't communicate with anyone, until I went to work.

I have a cell phone which I use when I go out because I can never find payphones. It's an older Samsung, and it doesn't have any of the camera/internet doodads, so it was pretty cheap.

My inlaws bought my husband and me cell phones the first Christmas we were married since when he was stationed on a boat or out of state for training we had no other way to talk to each other. With free mobile to mobile it works out well, but now that he is at a land station and I see him everyday it seems like such a waste to spend $90+ a month (and a huge bill for going way over our minutes when our rollover minutes finally ran out
) on them instead of just getting a landline plan with unlimited long distance for half that. It is a nice convenience to have when running errands or for safety purposes though…and now I would probably miss having one a little in those situations were I to get rid of it.

I have a cell phone- as a single woman in one of the most deadly cities in the US (memphis), i'd be crazy not to, especially since you can never find pay phones anywhere anymore. It's just not safe to not have one around here. I however do not have cable or anything like that. I have the internet because i'm in college- so it is a must. Also, i've noticed that in numerous ways, if you can find a good cell phone plan- it is cheaper to take out the home phone and just use a cell phone
.

Movin' on up!
The main reason, that I keep a cell, is my working hours. If my dad has to take Mom to the hospital or, something happens to the kids, I can be reached (I check my voice mail on breaks and lunches). In addition, I'm trying to buy a house and I can return my agent's or lender's calls, on my lunch break.

There is a website: www.gethuman.com. This site was started by a man who was frustrated with the "menu's" that most companies have nowaday. There are many many companies 800#'s listed with steps on bypassing the automated systems and getting a human person quicker. I have found this website to be very helpful.

IA. If you need me, just meow..
Both DH and I have cell phones. I didn't give my number to LJS, they don't need it. My boss does have DH's number but was told to NEVER call it unless I was having a seizure.
That's the main reason we got it. For my seizures. I had one while showering one day and couldn't get ahold of DH, and was freaking out. I fell out of the shower and don't remember anything after that. Somehow I managed to call my MIL and she came over and together we tried to get ahold of FIL who was with DH. When we finally got ahold of him DH was gone off somewhere. So We decided that we both need one just in case it happens again so we can get in touch all the time. We also have a land line but rarely ever answer it unless it's someone we want to talk to, and then they have to leave a message before we pick up.
