I was just thinking, you can always check Craigs List for your area to see what the apartment and house rentals on there are like for your area.

I've also found this website, City Data, helpful with seeing what housing is like in an area. Not to mention other things like weather patterns, schools, crime rate, etc...

Come on down Hope!

We live in a mobile home that was converted into a house by building onto it on each side. We also have almost an acre fenced in yard. Seperate laundry room and covered carport. We pay $700 a month... and that's DIRT CHEAP!!!!!!!!! Every other place we looked at was upwards of $1,000!

Here is an ad for an apartment in a new building right downtown:

Bachelor apartment (240 sq ft!) up to $755. See more here: --->Click Here

In my area that I currently live in now, 30 minutes north of downtown, you will still easily pay $800-$1200 plus utilities for a 2 bedroom apartment. These apartments are usually found in a house, where they rent out a portion of it.
That would be why I don't live in Toronto!
I am 30-40 mins West and pay $945 for 1075 sq ft two bedroom apartment. That includes heat, water & electricity and we pay $20 extra for a parking spot

I wish we had the OPTION of paying extra for a parking spot. Its a nine unit building with 5 spots. They belong to those tenants who have been there the longest.

If we get home and can't find a spot on the street we just have to either keep circling the block or go see a movie and come back later and try again.

We technically have enough for one per apartment, but there are some people that have been here for ages that have more than one so others don't get one. We also have only 10 visitors spots for a large apartment complex

Where I live in CA, rent can range from about $750.00 for 1 BR/1 BA to $6,525.00 for a fully furnished 4BR house per month, utilities aren't usually included.

We're paying $1,000. a month for a 900 square foot apt. and thats on the cheaper side.......Only the trash is included.

Near a university like I always live, it tends to be more expensive. My last apartment was 675 for 725 sq ft, including water and heat.
This apartment is 410, plus 15 for Zissou, and only includes water. It's probably 500 sq ft? Guessing... it's bigger than my half of the last one, but it's definitely not big. People comment that using my bathroom is like peeing on an airplane, and my kitchen is exactly big enough for a fridge, a stove, and a sink. No bigger. No counter.
But I love it here, the buildings nice, and I have two closets and a pretty big living room as far as college apartments go. And a courtyard, with trees, and grass. People know where I live because it's the only building on this street with a lawn fo miles.

My rambling point being, in moderate-demand areas in Ohio, a decent apartment runs a little less than $1/sqft. My parent's apt, though is about the same price as mine but more than three times the size, because they live in a nice suburb with not many renters. Then again, my sister's first apt was in downtown, extremely high-demand, and she paid more than I do now for a studio, and that was 8 years ago!

I know someone renting a small house in Santa Monica that's more like $3500-$4000 a month I think. I can't wait to leave this city. Too expensive...
Sounds as though you get about the same deal as we do in London.

I don't rent, but if I were renting my flat it would cost me at least £800 ($1500 USD) a month, and I live in the cheapest grottiest area of London. Most of my friends (and we're talking people in their 30s with decent jobs) live in shared houses or flats because they can't afford to live otherwise.

Pretty similar to Manchester really! The flat we rented (2 bed, 1 bath, kitchen/lounge/diner, balcony on the first floor) cost us £550 pcm Fully furnished (exclusive of bills)

The ironic thing is that we are presently renting a three bedroom house (kitchen/diner, 1 bathroom, 1 cloakroom) with garden and driveway for £595!! It's in the same part of the city, fully furnished and also exclusive of bills!

I would recommend that you check out townhouses too, as often, you'll be surprised at the smll price difference!

Hmm...when I was in an apartment I had 850 sq ft for $730 a month. But the neighbors were horrible and disrespectful in the 2 bedroom. The one bedroom was 750 sq fr for $640. This included heat for this complex.

Currently we live in a 2 bedroom house that we're renting. That's $950 a month, 1000 sq ft and close to all Metro detroit happenings!
