My cats have never been hair yankers, but they will do this with lawn grass and my sheepskin throw.
The grass I don't mind, but that throw isn't cheap!
Calicos and tortoiseshell.
I did the black cat thing for many years, generation after kitty generation...but then it fell out of favor with me when a drop-dead gorgeous dilute long-hair torbie showed up on my doorstep.
I've had head-lickers, but never hair-eaters.
She will most likely grow out of it as she matures (my head-lickers did), but injesting human hair will not be good for feline innards.
Think in terms of weeks and months, not days.
When I brought my fire-cat rescue home I was very surprised she allowed me to pet her just a week and a half into her stay.
Since your kitty is blind, smell and sound will be key in dealing with him.
Always announce yourself in sweet tones, chatter...
Earthquakes aren't so prevalent in northern California, what we prepare for is wildfire.
We dodged a bullet just last week, sudden fire closeby, stiff winds, we were even in the evacuation zone but opted to ride it out since the property is more easily defended and the logistics of moving pets...
I had a cat that finally had to go.
He was a stray that we took in as a young cat.
We had him neutered at a young age, and he had lots of personality, but he started spraying everywhere, which is bad enough, but he was a terrible bully...and built like a 15 lb brick.
He kept attacking and...
Our summers are hot. Arizona in Northern California hot. We often tie or beat Arizona for dry heat.
We’re at 105* right now, but 115* is not unheard of.
We consider 90* to be comfy!
Cats are sacked out under cool leafy garden plants or inside under the evaporative cooler until evening.
Some good points are made here. :yess:
Evacuation will always be a possibility for us in this fire-prone area. I think I will put one of the carriers in the closet for Pyrra to sleep in. In is one of her spots she likes to sleep.
Also showing her other cats at play is a good idea. I had Tori...
Of course I picked her because she was calico, having five other tortie/calico cats, but also the original video of her in the shelter showed that little spark of curiosity in the tilt of her head and the tentative playful paw...I just knew something special was still alive inside.
Now if I can...
Northern California has suffered some terribly devastating wildfires that have left whole communities destroyed. Hundreds of cats perished but an amazing number of them survived. Many had seared ears and paws, long hair scorched short, whiskers burned off. I cried every day I witnessed yet...
OK, we've been treating Mooni for a week or two and, although at first the eye was seemingly starting to get better, now the cast is suddenly back and the other eye is showing the same clouding. I am still waiting for the steroid drops to come in the mail I had to order from a drug compounder...
When there are kittens around I do the 'kitten shuffle' whenever they may be out and underfoot, but still they can pop out of nowhere. Good thing they are squishy and pliable and manage to avoid injury and I am glad yours did too. I know I've stepped on my fair share.
When my miss Mooni was...
Oh, and I do agree with the other posters...neutering has many, many benefits, health-wise and behavior-wise. The become less aggressive with other cats, their pee does not stink as bad, their health is generally better. They are not constantly sexually oriented like humans. It is something they...
Neutering may or may not stop the spraying. I have three neutered cats on our property and they all still spray, which is on reason only the girls can come in the house. It only takes one to start, then all think it must be done.
Of course if you have cats that pee on piles of clothes, then...
