    New kittens

All right, barring any further complications, I'm ready to declare these guys as being well on the mend after about a week in my care. Still some sniffling going on, but their eyes are clear, and their energy levels are rapidly approaching what I would expect from youngsters this age. I'll be...

    New kittens

Another vet check is already in the works this week. Energy levels are considerably better than when I first gained custody, but he isn't as active as I would expect and hope to see. He'll bat at a toy, but rarely runs, and often ends up watching his sister play rather than joining in. Not...

    New kittens

no luck with the baby food, at least no more than anything else. He's been licking that too. I'll be trying out the milkshake later tonight

    New kittens

Update, both kittens still sniffling, but their energy levels are up considerably. Luke has started to actually enjoy the KMR, and has begun drinking it himself from a saucer plate rather than having me essentially force it on him. Still hasn't eaten any solid food (wet or dry), and yes I've...

    New kittens

I was trying the tuna earlier due to the strong smell, figuring that this would be a problem, it is not something I'd use on a regular basis. So far, four different wet food brands have been offered and rejected, as have pieces of cooked and raw chicken. I can try the baby food though.

I've been doing that, it doesn't seem to help much. Is there any kind of decongestant that would be safe to use?

    New kittens

Day two on medication. Leia is doing notably better, and has taken to bouncing around the apartment in between naps. She's already back up to a healthy weight and growing fast. Luke seems to be doing a little better as far as respiratory function goes, but is still lethargic and refusing to eat...

    New kittens

Saw the vet earlier today. Prognosis is promising, they should be feeling much better within a few days on the provided antibiotics. In the meantime I've been feeding Luke by hand every few hours and intend to keep that up until he starts eating on his own again. I'm afraid he's getting tired...

    New kittens

Got the KMR, but he didn't want to drink that either. Fed him an ounce or so of it using an eye dropper. I'll repeat that every once in a while, make sure he keeps his strength up.

    New kittens

There is another place i could probably get into a little quicker, but their reported track record is so bad I suspect these two are better off waiting. I was a little surprised myself, but didn't press for an explanation when told that. I'll snag some KMR tonight, any particular brand?

    New kittens

Adopted a pair of kittens from a rescue shelter earlier today. Seven week old Domestic Shorthairs from the same litter, a male and female who I've chosen to call Luke and Leia (yes, I'm a huge geek). They've settled in quickly enough. One of the litterboxes has already been investigated and...

Cat and new kitten, playing or fighting?

So long as the one being chased isn't reacting with fear, that's fine as well. visual signs of fear: Tail tucked close, bristled fur, arched back, ears folded back, dilated pupils Here's a good example

Cat and new kitten, playing or fighting?

no hissing, growling, tail lashing, signs or sounds of pain? If no, it is just play fighting, let them. Do be aware that it is possible for the older cat to cause the kitten injury by accident, so be prepared to step in if things get a little too rough.

    Training your kitten/cat?

A couple of things: -training can begin right now if you so wish. Though I do suggest first looking into training methods and coming up with a plan. Cats don't respond to the same training methods as dogs. -I'm not the expert some others here are, but I believe that him following you at night...

Kitten loves running all over the place

The first year is the 'worst' in regards to problematic energy levels, but it can take until 3 or more years of age to completely work it out of their system. (So far as I'm concerned, it is less of a problem and rather among the most endearing aspects of kittens, but I don't think I would ever...

Kitten loves running all over the place

Ok, Damien, the first thing you need to figure out is that cats do not respond to negative behavioral adjustment. In other words, punish a cat, and all you do is make them want to avoid you, not stop the behavior in question. Yelling and spraying is therefore worse than useless. Secondly, a...
