I have a 5-6 year old female cat, who has suddenly started over-eating and begging for food constantly. She is gaining weight rapidly. I hesitate to bring her into the vet again as it is so stressful for her. Originally a feral, I took her in some years ago when she was pregnant. It took years...
Just an update on the litterbox issues---I thought that I had posted a few weeks ago but I must have made a technical error.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I followed all your advice and everything is back to normal. No more horrible surprises to greet the day!
I got a few more litter...
Thanks, Columbine---the article was helpful especially the part about getting and properly using the enzyme cleaners. I have been using bleach and hydrogen peroxide up until this point thinking that would suffice. Apparently nothing can clear up the spot except an enzyme cleaner.
I will post the...
Thanks so much for your advice---I will get 3 more regular litter boxes today, that and the existing 2 self-cleaning ones should suffice. I am really hoping this will do the trick.
Hi All,
haven't been on this site for a while but I could really use some advice. I have 4 cats (mother +her 2 sons, and another male), all are adults and were outdoor cats until we moved a few weeks ago. They all used the "Open Air" self-cleaning litter box and the outdoors for years at our...
Hi Jeapa,
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy following your story about Claire and her kittens. I find it amazing that Claire decided to come to your house to deliver her kittens----how did she know you were going to provide so much for her even though her instincts told her to be wary of...
Hi Jeapa and everyone else who cares for cats. I haven't had much to say lately because my Queen has been very shy and protective of her kittens and I have been too nervous to aggravate her. This week we had family from out west come and stay with us. While I was trying to fashion a cardboard...
Thank you so much for sharing these tips on your blog. I have been very worried about approaching the feral cat that is in my basement, as she gave birth to six kittens within days of arriving. Needless to say I haven't really been able to break the ice with her but I need to have a closer look...
Jeapa, I just love your photos, they have really inspired me to try and do the same. I want to capture these sweet moments and keep them forever. Perhaps you would consider making these pictures into a calender for your grandchildren. All your hard work, patience, love and kindness have made it...
Thank you sarthur, the kittens are only 4-5 days old as they were born over a 24 hour period on July 9th-10th. Maybe in 3 weeks times I'll have gained a bit more trust and I can borrow a leather jacket and some gloves for moving day.
Hi HandsomeKitty, in answer to your question, no she has not explored any other part of the house except for the time she broke out of the rec room and hid in my crawl space while she was still pregnant. Most days she sat still in a corner under a counter. She only started laying under the pool...
Hi I gave her the raw egg mixed with her wet food last night and she obviously loved it because there wasn't trace left early this morning and she only partially ate the other wet food. I have washed the shells and I will grind them into powder today. I think she may be used to eating eggs...
Oh yes it is very warm for them even though they are still in the basement. The fleece lined nest is on a blanket and the floor has radiant heat which is set at 77 degrees. We have kept the air-conditioning off so their is no draft. The temperature is pretty comfortable down there but the...
Thanks for your quick responses Sarthur and HandsomeKitty. I don't think I'm going to be praying for anymore kittens to be born any time soon.
I can't see any obvious discharge in or around her bedding nor can I see anything wet on her legs when she stretches out and lifts her leg to nurse...
I have been following LittleLu's thread on interrupted labour and I am almost afraid to ask this question: just how many kittens can a smallish (aprox.8 lbs) cat have? As was mentioned on LittleLu's thread, babies can potentially come out for up to 2-3 days. The Queen of Sheba (that is her...
Oh Boy are they ever cute! Bringing them home ought to lift everyone's spirits. I must say that you have an incredible energy to be able to do all that you do.
Good Luck with everything, I hope Polka can find solace and get rid of some of the milk that must be building up inside of her.
Hope...
