    New and overwhelmed owner

It's hard to explain how it switches from wondering what you're going to do with this cat to how you could ever live without them, but it really does happen!

Yes, still have him and he was totally fine as an only pet. He eventually gained a dog brother but it Hasnt really changed his demeanor. your cat is probably just really interested in his new surroundings and will fall in step with your routine soon.

Hi Gewel198 - you are definitely not alone, and you're definitely not a horrible cat mom! It takes time for everything to gel, but once it does you won't look back. I'm the original poster here and didn't even remember I had written this a year ago! I'd recommend a big cat tree, a window to look...

    Adult cat nursing blankets

My new cat is assumed to be about three years old. He loves to lick anything fleece and will especially cuddle into and lick at a corner of his fuzzy bed or a stuffed animal while kneading and purring like crazy. It's cute that he's so content. First Time Cat Owner w/ Concerns

I hear you! I've lived with cats before and I was really taken aback by the adjustment to actually owning my own. Smells were/are my biggest concern, but I do think it gets better as they adjust to your place and you find the right litter system, etc. Are you using a hooded litter box with a mat...

First Time Cat Owner w/ Concerns

Hi! Is it possible your cat still smells like the shelter? My new pet Jay did for about a week, and was stinking up his blankets, bed, etc. I got some kitty wipes at PetCo, washed his blankets, and plan to scrub out his original "safe room" - it's a big improvement already!

    New and overwhelmed owner

Thanks! I've gotta say - when I took him home from the shelter last week, he jumped right into his carrying box and relaxed the whole way home. Last night, getting ready to take him to the vet for a checkup, he clawed and banged at the sides of the box the whole trip, and didn't relax until we...
